Judging the Frank Lampard change (2 Viewers)

To kick off I was one of the people who were supportive of the change at the time so this isn't some misty eyed look back to MR's reign. My point at the time was we can't keep having poor starts to the season and just accept it as it puts way too much pressure on down the line. I did however say I'd only judge FL a success if he A, got us promoted last year or B, gave us a better start to the season. I have attached the Table from last year at 10 games in which is a decent slug of the season to judge on. Long and short it's looking pretty good so far let's see where we are at 10 games. My only slight negative is we need to turn some of the draws in to wins which FL already acknowledged. 18526.png

To start turning draws into wins we have to start scoring goals and after the start we did have that area seems to have dried up to an extent

It was an odd one yesterday, some of our absolute best chances we fluffed our lines on. BTA swinging his foot and missing the ball is nightmare inducing.

What's the comparison from the equivalent games last season? Gut feeling is we've got more points than we did from these games last season.

Let's just hope we can keep it going. The concern is squad strength, or lack of it, will force us to push players to their limit which increases the risk of injury. Hopefully we can get through to January without too many injuries and strengthen then.

You don’t need stats to evidence the differences.
1) We’re scoring more goals
2) We’re playing better attacking football.
3) Player morale is obviously up.
4) The back room staff are better.
5) We’re higher in the league.
Defensively and from set pieces I’d say we’re static.

Worth a look after 46 games across both seasons.

Edit: quick maths says that'll be after 9 more games.

Hull win - draw
Derby loss - win
QPR win - win
Oxford win - draw
Norwich loss- draw
Leicester -draw

Not sure what you want to compare Leicester to but Burnley, Leeds and Sunderland we got 1 point away to these teams I think?

So 9/10 points (depending on the comparison for the Leicester match) last season to 10 this

We lost to Norwich last season

We've just played 2 decent teams, including Leicester who were many people's favourites to run away with the league, and Norwich who have one of the best strikers in the division and are targeting a top 6 finish themselves. we scored 1 we conceded 1, That's hardly cause for panic, and hardly a reason to suggest the goals have "dried up"
We are just as likely to score 4 against Brum.

We've looked more solid in the last 2 games and we arnt looking so vulnerable from set pieces anymore, and Rushworth looked like the keeper we thought we were getting, after looking suspect previously.

Its one thing saying we have to turn draws into wins. That's obvious, but what we have done is turn defeats into draws, which is the first step.

This time last season we would of lost to Leicester and Oxford, so there's a steady progression under Lampard, and given the fact that our squad is a couple of quality players light, as shown yesterday when there's no natural wide replacement for EMC, I think we've done well so far.

Performances clearly light years ahead of our start last season. I said after the Cardiff game (Lampard’s first) that I thought this is the style he wanted. Squad a little thin to be playing high-pressing football consistently though so there is a risk it drops off.

The first couple of games, you are finding your feet, so Hull and Oxford are excusable. It's been a mixed bag of tough and easier opposition. There are plenty of easier ones coming up and i would expect the way we are playing more wins are certain . Bristol have had a far easier looking fixtures list for their start tbf. Drawing with Norwich and Leicester away are good results. We are unbeaten and there is a sense that we intend to seek promotion automatically. January transfer window could be key to that goal. Interesting that Thomas and Kitch kept a clean sheet away at Leicester and looked pretty solid for 90% of the game with good discipline. Amazing what the threat of another new signing who is expected to play can do. Think Wolfenden may have to wait for a Kitch or Thomas mare.
Fitness seems to be a question mark. There were some tired legs yesterday. Do think we missed EMC out wide and Asante running in behind down the middle. He was inffective out wide. So player fitness is key. Squad depth is lacking of any real quality. Hope we can get a head of steam before any injuries. It's all good and optimism is high.

With the out of contract players list , still to be used ( if deemed good enough ) January’s window might be the most important for some time .
I’m just hoping that we avoid injuries & are still very much in the top 3 to 4 to launch our offensive towards the prem

The most significant indication of the change under Lampard is how a good few players seemed to have really benefited from the coaching their receiving from the managerial team. Rudoni & Torp in particular but also JDS seems to have kicked on . BTA had improved appreciably and there were some green shoots from Simms . Kitching and Thomas look a solid pairing and it's great that there is serious competition for defensive starting spots now . Also Josh Eccles stepping in almost seamlessly yesterday. There just seems to be an air of real positivity around the squad , management and the club.

This is our best start of a season since 21/22 when we had 15 points after 7 games .

I would say ive been largely impressed with lampard this season .. I feel like the team now have a new identity seperate from the Mark robins era .

I still think matty grimes is a massive part of our structure and success since January and this season lampard seems to be showing some pragmatism and flexibility in how we play and We look fit and sharp

Teams that grab an equaliser in the 96th minute after a frustrating game then win 3-0 without being at its best and avoid taking the other team's sh*thouse bait are a good bet for 80+ points imo.

so if we're still bagging this rate of PPG after another three games, I'm gonna let myself get excited. Defence looks settled and consistent with decent depth. Feel like that will make the difference.

MR was fantastic at playing the underdog, backs against the wall type attitude. He built his teams around that philosophy and made players believe in it and brought fans with him.

FL has a completely different attitude to it and has come in with what MR had helped build. And now said to the players we are the ones team shoot at. He wants them to be talked about as favourites to win every match.

Its purely mentality shift and with all due respect to MR something he could of never done. In FL playing career he was surrounded by winners who expected nothing less to be the best.

I have not been to many games where the expectations to win a was so noticeable at 1 nil up yesterday. Players know what's demanded and now are playing with expectations. Its mentally..

I think Matty Grimes is everything Robins had hoped and wanted Sheaf to be.

Yes, not a very big sample but we have only conceded 1 in the last 3 games. Not bad when you consider the games included Leicester away, Birmingham who were/are one of the favourites for promotion, and one of our bogey teams, Norwich.

Agree with this. The shift in mentality to us being at least an equal in every game is great. I think it's definitely the right way to go about it this season where the league looks more condensed with no runaway parachute teams it seems.

The football so far has largely been excellent too.

The one thing to conquer now is breaking down the teams that sit deep & defend, that's been our achilles heel under Lampard so far. Managing the injuries will be a challenge as well as he's been left with a thin squad.

Im delighted with what Lampard is doing here, and I was one who didn't want MR to be sacked, but its also worth pointing out what MR is doing at Stoke, he has guided them to an excellent start to this season too, although I think their squad depth is far worse than ours, so I'd be suprised if they are challenging for a top 6 spot next April.

But Stoke fans certainly love him.

For now lose 6 on the trot he’ll be sacked
