As opposed to 1st, 1st, 1st, 2nd, 1st etc as would have been the norm a few seasons earlier - just highlighting Liverpool not being at their most potent rather than running us down.
Arsenal away is my personal gripe - seen us draw there a few times but never seen us win. (Missed both of those victories early '90's)
Though we were the only team I think to win at Anfield in 89/90, which was the last time they won the top flight until 2020.

Couldn't go to the Lester game but watch it. That young lad for Lester, Monga, is the next big thing, but he started off with us and went to Lester when he was 8 or 9. The commentator said on many occasions he lives just around the corner from the training ground, does he live in Ryton? Meant to be worth 50 million already. How did we miss him?
He was in our academy at one point I think but was poached by Leicester. Not surprising given that they were league winners 9 years ago, and have an absolutely tremendous academy and facilities.

Away at the Mouldydew v premier league Wolves FA Cup quarter final March 2024.

To beat ‘big teams’ away you need to be in the premier league or draw them in cup competitions. We‘ve been out of the prem for almost a quarter of a century, a whole generation of our fans have missed out.
That's not really the point I was making, sorry.

What I mean is within the league we are in, yes the FA Cup win at Wolves was great! But I am talking about league games. When do we go away to the top 4-5 teams in our league and win? I might be wrong but from memory it's very rarely!

Maybe we did Ipswich in league one season? But in the past 2-3 seasons who have we gone to and won?

It's not a criticism lol, I'm just saying I don't think it happens often and it would be nice!

It’s rare because those teams are up there for a reason.

We've done alright at Sunderland recently. Given we'd just returned to league one at the time, didn't we go there and beat them 5-4 and they were a parachute payment team at the time?

I'm not saying he won't go on to great things but he isn't worth a tenth of that yet.

He's certainly worth more than that just for his potential alone. 16 years old, doesn't look out of place at all against seasoned pro's and even scored on his debut. He will be in demand by the top clubs if he continues as he has started.

That's a fair point Pezza.

I don't think it's just us that aren't very successful away against better clubs in our league(s) though.

Overall our home form has got us to where we are now and without stating the bleeding obvious and as FL keeps saying we have to improve improve improve.

I'm always amazed when I hear commentaries of premier league games and how really poor some long established top flight teams away records are at certain grounds have been down the years

We didn't. I'm sure he was poached by Leicester. And with their training facilities at the time, compared to ours, you can't really blame the lad.

The progress of the club won't really be reflected in the academy until 5/6 years time at the best

As for the game, I was in Skegness and watched it in a pub there, with no commentary. A group of Leicester fanswere in there too and said we looked far better than anyone they'd seen so far this season, and at half time they were begging for a point.

I didn't think we were quite on it myself, and we could be better, but before that game I'd have been happy with a point

I would agree with them. One thing I've seen is - our starting 11 is up there as if not the best one of the best in the league. What we don't have is bench game changers.

Leicester can bring on players like Jeremy Monga, we can bring on lower squad players like Jamie Allen and Jake Bidwell. They'll do a job in this league if we were looking to stay in it, but If we're looking to go up - we need better players ready to come on.

He's in the first team at 16, but we don't use our young lads until they're 18/19 cos they're 'too young'? none of it makes sense.

It would if we had one like Monga at 16. It's quite rare to have a 16 year old to be ready to play for one of the top Championship sides. It doesn't make our younger players poor.

Its more the fact that we rarely seem to have players coming through the academy and making an impact on the first team rather than age

There have been so many young players who have been the next big thing who have disappeared.

Thornton, Sambou, Phillips, Rus, Harries, Thomas x 2, McCann, Allessani, Ponticelli, Ngandu, Bapaga, Howley to name but a few

I've no doubt if we had a youngster as good as Monga Lampard would be giving him minutes, but we don't.
I'm not sure how much of Monga is he's just very physically developed for 16 year old which scouts seem to be obsessed with. Like when Dembele played for Celtics u20s at 13. Or Moukoko at Dortmund playing in the Bundesliga at 6 or something mental.

Thought he put in a decent cameo Saturday
