I saw one right wing commentator on X compiling a spreadsheet of academics who had apparently said mean things about Kirk and gleefully keeping track of which ones had been fired.

This same woman had tweeted months ago that 'Palestine could be bombed to oblivion for all I care and I wouldn't lose a wink of sleep'.

First of all, apologies. I’m an American and I come here to your message board because I’m a fan (supporter) of Coventry FC. I’m sure my tone sounded combative. Sincerely - not what I intended. The last thing I want to do in my spare time is start a message board war.

I don’t care if Kimmel gets replaced by the biggest anti Trump voice TV/American Media has ever heard. Just be fresh and entertaining. In my opinion, Kimmel stopped being that long ago. He’s not Johnny Carson. He’s no Jay Leno. He’s no Conan or Craig Ferguson. He is a snooze fest at best. Again, My opinion - If you are going to get paid millions, just don’t mail it in. Kimmel thought most of us actually care about his opinions . No, we want you to make us laugh.

Kimmel explicitly lied. That’s it. Like has been pointed out many times, the reaction from the left towards this shooting is disgusting and it has rattled a lot of people that are pretty moderate. Even the reaction on here continues to be derisory, unfortunately.

I understand Kimmel has been critical of Trump, but he’s been making jokes about him for years. What got him canned was lying about a crime. Maybe what was previously a safe space to do that kind of thing isn't so much anymore, and who is surprised after what has been happening? This nature of smearing everyone that disagrees with you as MAGA, far-right, nazi etc has had catastrophic consequences.

Whilst some may argue the suspension is too far, I certainly am not a fan of cancelling people myself, I find it pretty baffling that many leftists are upset about this, and in some cases more upset about it than the fact a man actually got assassinated. This cancel culture and free speech war was entirely constructed by them, including people like Kimmel, and now the beast they created is coming back to haunt them, they can't take it. It's more hypocrisy.

Frankly, recent actions have ensured it has been a disastrous period of time for the left.

His lie there was so much more dangerous too. On a massive scale.

Isn't where you draw the line on free speech, at incitement to violence (or as Starmer pointed out today, on inciting others to self-harm/suicide)?

That doesn't seem unreasonable to me.

Where I'd concede it gets trickier is hate-speech, defined as "Expressions of hatred toward someone on account of that person's colour, race, sex, disability, nationality (including citizenship), ethnic or national origin, religion, or sexual orientation is forbidden."

That doesn't seem overly contentious either, but even that gets messy for the police. Should we be arresting people for publicly proclaiming homosexuality is a sin, for example? It's odious, imho, but is it really hate speech?

Honestly, I don't know. You can't claim to be a free speech absolutist though, and then aggressively shut down someone (or get them sacked) for saying something about the weaponisation of the whole Charlie Kirk

Have you got another clip because the only one I can find is this and it doesn't contain any explicit lies or anything I would expected anyone to be suspended over

Is this really a shocker to anyone? America wants to cancel everyone they don’t agree with.

One month ago, we wanted to cancel Sydney Sweeney because she has good Jeans. The pendulum will swing back and forth between the left and right canceling each other until there’s not much left. It’s where we are now.
