Grimes would be replaced. It would be the most important position in the team to recruit for. Sunderland have done it well buying Xhaka.
I suppose that is true but Grimes has the capability to play in the prem imo, and I think we’d go for more of a double pivot with a quality 6 next to him meaning MvE isnt limited and can continue contributing to our attack as we’d need an extra man back as you’re more likely to get punished in the PL

He's not getting any younger. Id suspect we would go with a real proven calibre captain on their way down in their career.

I loved Kelly in L1 & L2, she Championship was beyond him really. Similarly I love Grimes for where we are, but hes not a PL player.

If we went up the only players capable of starting are Rudi, Wright, Grimes, MvE and probably not all 4 will be starters as well.
Dovin could potentially if he comes back in the vein of form he was in prior to his injury, Tats, EMC and Torp would be good squad players. 100% 2 new CBs, a LB, CM, LW and RW would be needed for the starting 11 and potentially another GK, CM and ST to add to it, thats not even thinking about the squad players I make that 6 to 9 new starting players we’d need
Woolf has premier league experience. Even if that experience was getting relegated. Its still more than any other player in our squad right now. I can see him getting in the starting 11 sooner rather than later, and he'll make that position his own.

Some sky blue tinted glasses on this thread. Grimes and Torp have the technical ability but are far too slow for the PL. It's not the 90s any more.

JDS, love him, a great player. EPL unlikely but you never know.
However, Saturday will be a massive test for him and I worry it will be back to all the shit he gets on here if he is less than perfect against probably the best right winger in the Championship.
In advance remember, even Stuart Pearce was taken to the cleaners on occasion.
