Not sure how a feel about this, you could have the team finishing in 8th getting to the Prem. Also feels like a bit of a safety net for a parachute club if they were to fall a bit short.
Stops there being half the league without things to play for by April though I guess. I'm not sure what to think of it.

Yeah, I think you may well be bang on with the reasoning. Gives a much better chance for the parachute teams to make it back up

I like it. Keeps more of the league in play for longer whilst still leaving an advantage to finish 3rd / 4th . The less dead rubbers there are, the better imo.

I’d also do something by similar with relegation. Supporting football is about emotion and when there is nothing to play for, there’s no emotion.

Relegation play off would be really interesting

A lot of National League fans complain about the system - teams in 7th/8th get a slight advantage in playing the week before and being more match fit whereas the team who finish higher don't play for two weeks

I want relegation play offs. Lets make the chance to play at Wembley available for those at the other end of the championship table. It's simply unfair only winners and achievers get to Wembley. We need rewards for participation.

23rd & 24th teams guaranteed relegation. Relegation play offs in a similar way to we presently see at the other end of the table for last promotion spot. All on the public stage where we will watch in curiosity about how the excitement of playing at Wembley is tempered by the fight against relegation. Box Office stuff lol.

Been serious this new suggestion that's started the thread smacks of more money been made by extra games, maybe Wembley been used more and again more money in the coffers. Also as someone else has said giving the parachute teams an extra life line. Keep it as is. It really isn't broken.

Unfucking believable. If is not FIFA, UEFA its now the EFL the greedy bastards. Why not go the whole fucking hog and make everyone play a cup at the end of the season to see who wins that so they can play a final at Wembley. It causes enough of a problem when team 6 gets promoted over team 3 when there’s 20 point difference. Let’s make it even more of a circus and let the team that finishes 8th get promoted.

If its not broke, don't fix it. The play-offs are perfectly fine as they are.

As for relegation/promotion play-offs, I think its completely unfair to the potential promoted club to have to play a team from a higher division. Imagine playing 46+ games in a season only to have to play someone like Everton in a one off game to get promoted. We have divisions for a reason. You should only play against clubs in your own division.

Id like to see it bought in for relegation. Bottom 2 auto relegation. 4 teams above that play a mini league. Worst team over 3 games drops. Like sparks says, stops majority of the league sitting on the beach for the last month or so of the season. If all of a sudden mid table can either a) pull themselves in to a play-off spot or b) can get dragged in to the relegation battle! Bring it on i say!

Hmm not sure if I think it's a good thing or not...

I'd imagine most clubs in the league will be up for this though.

If we finish 8th and got promoted, I wouldn't give any shits at all whether anyone else felt it was deserved.

There were 3 points separating 5th to 8th in the championship last season. 31 separated us from 2nd. We were closer to 8th the we were autos. I have no problem with it personally!
If its "fairness" you want, then the gap needs closing from 1st and 2nd to 4th. A team going up that finished 8th in a play-off they have deservingly won, is a lot fairer than a team with a £150m squad walking the league with over 100points every season!

What a shite idea. It's rubbish in the national league as the teams higher up have to sit around for couple of weeks waiting whilst lower teams build momentum.

Hope this is nipped in the bud

No but if we came 3rd and Leicester were 8th and beat us in the PO final you wouldn't feel the same about it
I dont see how its any different from 3rd to 6th? Last season Sunderland and Blunts finished 7 and 21 points ahead of us respectively. Between us and 8th were only 3 points between all 4 teams. How would us, finishing 4th, 21 points behind blunts (had got to the final and won) be any different to Millwall who finished 24 points? There is literally, no difference!

Well, despite the excitement of two Wembley PO finals I'm not an enthusiast. I don't think a 46 game league season should be seen as qualification for a KO cup. A League's a league and promotion and relegations should not be determined by play offs
