Hi all - my first post on this forum

Though I have been reading a lot of posts since I joined at Xmas i wasnt sure whethjer to get involved again and start posting but now I think its time now to start posting

Some of you will know me (lets face it there arent that many Sky Blue fans in Hastings!!) and I have kept a low profile for the last year or so, as I became a bit disillusioned not with the results as such because I will support City even in the Conference, but disillusioned with the way the club was being run (SISU) and Football in general (not allowed to stand, mind your language, stewards at Ricoh et etc) anyway ...........

I suppose this isnt a very controversial post but have got to say that in Mark Robins we really have unearthed a gem, I really do think all our success is down to him and the way he manages the team, even after the Oldham game he acknowledges the failing of the team (ie not defending a set piece in the last minute when winning 1-0), 'there are things we must work on this week to prevent that in future' - too right

He really motivates the players, he knows what formations/team selections are best for each particular match he seems to make good decisions for substitutions, he doesnt accept a win as the be all and end all - he looks at what needs to be improved etc etc

Does anyone not agree that Mark Robins is the best manager we have had for years or maybe even decades and we must do everything to keep him from the sharks that will be looking to poach him away from us ??

Dont get me wrong, I am very PRO Mark Robins and he is doing a fantastic job but it is only 3-4 months since he joined - bit early to call him the best we have had in decades but it is very promising. He seems to be getting something out of it all the last 3-4 managers couldnt.

Its a very good topic actually. I just want to point out we were 5th under Reid and doing well when the board sold Callum Davenport (our best player at the time) from under his nose. Other factors obviously involved but I think that didn't help Reid and he was a good manager.

He is the first man we have had that is showing what good management can do.
It's such early days though. Who's to say he won't be a disaster next season?
What is present though is a feeling that this could be the man to stay for a long time and make this football club his own.
The elements are all there: young, experienced, a former player with strong pedigree, ambitious and dare I say it intelligent.
At the moment I would say he is the first manager I have known for us that I can agree with the majority of the time.
I wish him every success but this is an industry that takes no prisoners. Will we be talking about a new guy this time next year?

However on the flip side of that 2 of those three so far are arguably 2 of our best performers.

I think the time you can really judge him is if we get into the championship next season and see how he gets on there.

So far though I have to say I am very impressed.

Agree with that Grendel. You've got teams throwing around serious cash in that division, which unless we secure our own big spending lunatic, we can't compete with.

We still don't have the money to compete though Don.

We don't genuinely know how much money we actually have.

If the investors now believe the premiership is the only way out or a team that are in a strong position in the championship, who knows.

However if we go up then allow our best to go and don't replace them again. No matter how good MR is we will probably come back down.

The best players are not good enough for the championship. Other than murphy I'm struggling. Adams is an unknown quantity as is bailey. The rest are not anywhere near good enough. Last season we had a far superior defence. They'd field when all available was probably better too. We have nowhere near enough funds to compete at the top end of that league.

The worrying thing with Bailey is Derby were happy for him to go.
DMC ate this league up. Now look at him. Forest were happy for him to go.
I know it is not always the case but generally you do need to invest to succeed in the championship.

The big difference in quality in this league is in the attacking third. I doubt there's a team in the championship that would have wasted all 3 one on ones that Oldham is on Saturday.

I don't think that it is always down to finance though. A cute Manager (and at this point I have to hold my hands up and say that I thought the MR appointment was a bad one at the time......WRONG!) can survive in the Championship with some astute buys and loan deals. I am convinced that should we gain promotion this season we will survive.

Agree with that Tony but even the best managers can only do so much on a shoestring. Robins will need major backing from the board and bigger crowds with more revenue should help.

We were also very happy with Aidy Boothroyd at this point in his tenure after a successful run, I remember people saying much the same, how at last we had found someone who knew their stuff after all the previous failures... not saying at all that I think Robins will head the same way but still seems safer to have some buffers on unbridled optimism!

I have this gut feeling SISU's investors have a lot of clout.

However SISU are implementing a strategy for them as only they now how.

However recently plan B just went down the Swanny.

Plan C will either be more blackmail or a genuine operation Premiership. Hope it is the later.

They certainly must do to have thrown £40-50m to prop up the club's losses under the tenure of various chairmen. However, as I said-from next season onwards you can only have a maximum of £4m in losses funded by loans from the owners (in the Champs). This means that how much in extra funding the squad can get is limited to a large extent by the club's revenue; which will be a lot bigger if more STs are sold and matchday crowds increase.
