wouldn't want them at the price they have paid for them

That's a different issue to the quality of the players. I would have loved us to get Callum Doyle in but I wouldn't want him on the terms of Wrexham's deal. That said, if Wrexham's plan to throw whatever money it takes to get promotion bears fruit I think they will be more than happy.

For the general well-being of the club I still prefer DK's approach. I reckon he is our best owner/chairman since Derrick Robins.

In his last Championship season he did best on the ball, in the top 25% of the division for pass accuracy and completed long passes. He was also in this for tackles won and interceptions, but around the middle of the pack for winning duels on the ground and in the air.
Thing is, i get why people like a foreign signing, its the unknown isn't.. like Asante as a CB target, could be shit, could be one of the best in the league. Who the fuck knows. But you have to have a balance, sometimes its just good to know what you're getting, especially at centre back. If we can get him for a good price its a solid addition for us.

Woolfenden would be a good signing at the right price. If it’s north of 5million it’s bad business in my opinion. Not sure how he features with our existing CBs either.

It’s been a weird window. I can only assume we’ve missed out on a number of our main targets.

I’d be happy with loans at this point if we can’t get the right player in.

Seems to be more value in Europe in the current market.

Are people not happy with Woolfenden? He looks a good signing to me, ticks boxes that people were crying out for.
I think the club played themselves with people on here. Most people were saying we should buy an experienced CB, as i said before Woolfenden is experienced without being old which is ideal... but the club had to go and bid on Hughes who is one of the outstanding young CBs in the league with potential to go even higher, so having seen that bid people suddenly changed their expectations.

Ideally we get centre backs in who are strong in the air, strong in the tackle, quick and have excellent passing range. Such players cost bigger money than we have and don't tend to stay long in the Championship, so you need to make compromises.

Thomas for example scores very well on the 'defending' side of things, he's in the top 10-20%, but he is average to quite low down on his passing. Kitching is in the middle of the pack as both a defender and on the ball. On the flip side, he's left footed and those carry an extra premium.

I would certainly go for someone like Pye at Stockport who's excelled defensively in League 1 but isn't so strong a passer and is also left sided. His right sided equivalent in L1 you've got Oliver Casey at Blackpool, who's as strong defensively but also better on the ball and at 24 can improve further.

Just on what @shmmeee was asking earlier, I spoke to my mate who’s an Ipswich fan about Woolfenden and he said “He’ll be alright for you guys, bit inconsistent and would be more of a bench option for us but he’s solid enough. Only decent at the right price though.” So to me that seems like a polite way of saying he’s alright but nothing amazing. Also, if Ipswich are happy to ditch a player to a top 6 rival then he can’t be that amazing, mixed feelings on Woolfenden atm.

You’re missing my point.

Doug and Dean sit down last season and decide were going to sell Milan. Well first we should see if anyone is out there who might pay £10m for a RB outside the PL and if so what other options are on the market. Basically is this a thing that’s actually going to happen or not? We aren’t taking him to CEX we need an interested buyer and that kind of deal takes months to finalise. If there were no serious buyers sniffing at the start of the summer it’s time for plan B.

But again if we were hanging everything of a big sale why the bids for players? We’ve clearly got money but feel the squad is too big maybe, so why extend Eccles Allen Bidwell and Wilson who are all nowhere near the first team?

It’s shit management decision after shit management decision I’m sorry. An no I don’t accept Lampard just doesn’t want to sign anyone.
Are you angry that we didnt take a low offer for MvE? Should we have just said yes to the highest bidder regardless of what that bid was?
Or angry that we signed KKH before an MvE sale was fully signed and sealed?
Or that we spent £3+mil on a potential squad player to allow MvE to not play 90mins 50+ times this season?

Your opinion may be different, but Eccles and Allen are vital squad players for us, especially as Sheaf's body is the structure of weetabix.
Once fit, both will play important minutes and contribute and we absolutely need that squad depth to help maintain fitness of Grimes/Rudi/Torp who cant play 90mins every week. Having their contracts extended was the correct decision or we have to spend possibly KKH money to bring someone else in (having lost Eccles/Allen for free at expiry).

Bidwell might have been appearances, we dont know, if it wasn't then I'd agree his extension could become questionable.
Before Rushworth came in we had Dovin, Wilson & Collins. Wilson is clearly favourite of the backups and by all accounts a superb character to have around the team. Would you rather we'd not extended him and kept Collins as the backup?

You're really on one today 😅

Ipswich fans have quickly forgotten all the players who shot them to a double promotion with a 96 point Championship total then. This has allowed them to get to the point where they shop in a different market to us i'm afraid, you think we could buy either of the 2 that start ahead of him?

They dont want to sell him to anyone, but rumour has it he wants to go to get more playing time.

He's a good option to have on the bench, but so was Binks, so I wouldn't pay much more than what we got for Binks.
I certainly wouldn't pay £4m+
There's cheaper options out there.

Give me the combined cost of those players.

Yeah, I’d hate to think of their combined wages as well !

Cant understand why posters are getting upset when the windows not closed yet and current team/squad is pretty decent. Yeah, we’re probably a couple light if the window closed today but let’s at least see what shakes out over next week or so before passing judgement.

Id imagine there’s some of same people complaining about not getting transfers done who complained about us overpaying for Kitching 🤷‍♂️. Make your minds up lads

Why would he want to come here to be on the bench? Hes doing that where he is.

Not saying we can or can’t, just simply stating what my mate told me. Seems like they’re happy to get rid of Woolfenden, I can only assume they think he’s sort of average, which is backed up by what my mate said (and he’s not a glory-hunting lunatic like some Ipswich fans).

I do not think our squad will change much between now and 1st September, a centre back will be brought in and i think Raphael and Bassette will leave on loan, been told Portsmouth have asked about Raphael and rumours of Bassette going to Europe.

Apart from the above anything else would be a surprise unless stupid bids come in for any of our players.

They can afford better than him, we probably can't.

Well they've altered their ambitions on signings, 100s of millions of pounds will do that. From our point of view he was a first team regular for a top 2 team 2 seasons ago... that's not 'average' by Championship standards.

I don't think Doyle would suit our system, he's not the quickest or best a turning so that left hand side of him and JDS would be interesting when we push the line up the field.

He is a good player but he he was here before the defence sat back a lot deeper.

cool story, it's bollocks as the indications they want to keep him but he wants to leave for more football

I think we should have a look at this Binks chap who plays for Brondby. He was the outfield player of the match in the Europa Conference League match against Strasbourg:

View attachment 45369

He's probably just what we need.

😊
He's too cultured for the championship. Over the years we have had players who were just too good for us. Gillespie, Keane, Pearce, Wallace, Yorath. For different reasons they had to move on and Binks, I believe, will be one of them. it wouldn't surprise me if he does the same as Viktor and develops abroad (I know Binks has done so before) and in a couple of years where he is constantly playing European football comes back to a high end premiership club.
