Well thus far we have spent £3m, sold for £2.5m alongside releasing players. We have a net spend of next to nil.

Cheap is relative.

Loans are cheap, free's are cheap but bidding £3m for a player valued at £10m+ by his club is being cheap also.

Are you saying therefore that the value a club puts on a player is the metric which should be applied to determine the true value of a player ?

How is it throwing money down the toilet?

Worst case scenario he costs them £5m-£8m and they sell him for £7.5m. If thats the case he's had a storming season for them and its just the equivalent of a loan.

The worst case is he is underwhelming and they
have wasted £8m. The best case is he develops really well then city will buy him back and possibly sell him for profit. Its a risk with no reward, a sensible football club wouldn’t make this deal and I’m glad we avoided.

All their revenue comes from ‘commercial’ deals. It’s shit as they’re a tiny club but when you have people like Reynolds and McElhenney they’re going to be attractive to US investors.

He’s looked good when I’ve seen him play. Good on the ball and decently quick to be able to play the high line.

Hard to know if he’ll go in straight away as I think our starting two are pretty set but think he’ll get chances and will be asked to compete for a starting position

He’s predominantly a player who loves to defend, head the ball away etc think more like McFadz than Trevor Peake

A regular in an Ipswich team that got promoted with a huge points total, not awful on the occasions he did appear in the Prem from what i can find, experienced without being old which is ideal. But he's not the one the forum thought of and they've had a weird boner for Joe Worrall as the 'experienced' cb for some reason.
Hughes is a more exciting target for sure as the potential to be more than a very good Championship CB is there but this signing would be decent enough.

Erm good question. I think you'd have to put someone like Hughes in pretty quick to justify the cost. Don't think he'd cost half as much tbf but could work his way in sure.

At this point we made more signings the summer we were selling Hyam to buy some grass. Can’t be anything but a massive recruitment failure tbh. Either Austin failed to find anyone or Doug failed to get them over the line.

No doubt someone will come along soon to tell me Lampard is actually the first ever manager to take over a team with budget to spend and decide not to spend it.
