Well thats the thing. If MVE was on his way out I could understand it but he's not.

How can you be so sure that MVE is staying in this window?

I hope you are right and I agree that things appear to have stalled but there's plenty of time left for a deal to be done. Then we have January to worry about.

I think buying KKH at what I reckon was a very reasonable price was a smart bit of business.

Wrexham going to spunk a lot of money to still be a pretty shite team. Their transfer strategy so far has been absolutely honking tbh.
£10m on Broadhead was utterly laughable - He is shite and had just one year left on his deal, must be a decimal point missing somewhere

That being said Doyle is a shrewd piece of business

We bid 7 million for Hughes so clearly we could have matched the bid, they probably offered more wages
That's if we were ever seriously in for Doyle. If we were bidding a similar amount for Hughes, it's unlikely we were in for both players.

They broke our transfer record to sign Nathan Broadhead, they're operating in a different financial reality to us.

The thing is if we sign a Hughes or Doyle for £10 million we have to play them, they can't sit on the bench, which begs the question, are they better than what we have?
Obviously not if Thomas is attracting Burnley and Brentford (premiership teams) and Doyle and Hughes are not attracting that kind of team, so why sell Thomas if he is better than them?
I always think a good yard stick on assessing a person's level is if they are out on loan, and then the loan finishes, does the club want to buy them, for Doyle, where it is said he made his biggest impact was with us, Leicester and Norwich where he was also on loan aren't interested in him, so he hasn't made significant progress.
OUTCOME - keep Thomas and bring in an old head like Fadz who can teach the players we already have. i am sure there are quite a few mature CB in the championship who can come and be back up for a season.

To bring in an old head we would have to revert to a back 5 to accommodate him. When we have Fadz in between McNally and Doyle we admittedly conceded very few goals but I cant see Frank reverting to that

Bassette will come good. Not sure what the issue is to freeze him out atm

While I'm not certain that Bassette will come good, I still have plenty of hope that he could. For me he has lots of good physical attributes and it is down to him to work hard and make the best of them.

I want to see him go out on loan, get some game time under a good coach at a decent level and see how he gets on.

If Doyle is available for £8m then we clearly either don’t want him or don’t think he’s worth the money.

Or it was location? I find it odd he prefers Wrexham on location to Sheffield or Glasgow. Ok closer to Manchester, but the Sheffield and Glasgow areas offer pretty decent places to live. Although United and Rangers may have only been able to offer lower wages - who knows?

I like what little I have seen of Perry but I don't think he's ready yet. We need battle-hardened CBs if we want to make a serious push for promotion.

Not always, I remember Gary Gillespie and Phil Babb coming in. Both quickly became two of the best defenders we ever had. Stuart Pearce came in from non league and didn't look out of place in top flight.

They'll all played a lot more first team games though.

So frustrating not to get any deals through, but I guess understandable with the interest in the team. Have to hold our nerves as fans. Just hope Doug doesn’t let us down.

We were never seriously considering Doyle. I believe he was on the list, but got struck off weeks ago. Here are the clues:
1. Kitching has been captain in absence of Sheaf. FL likes him as his #1 CB.
2. Charlie Hughes, is right footed. Even if he can play LCB, FL has shown a preference to a Right/Left combo.
3. We are fielding bids for Bobby, someone has informed his agent that he could be available at the right price. We are actively seeking to line up his replacement.
4. Even if Man City dropped the price (which they now have to £8m) wages were going to be an issue against the other teams linked Shef U, Leicester, Norwich & Wrexham.

I'd think we are looking at someone to push the starting two CB, a strong developmental player. We would only splurge £8m on a CB if it is to replace Thomas who would leave for a similar fee, and that profile does not match Doyle.
