I like BTA, but he's never a starter. Hs energy is useful off the bench, winning or losing, but at he's 26 and was a regular starter for WBA before coming here.. Strange that Robins brought him in, as we were set on 4-3-3 that summer. He's neither a 9 or a winger, although can do a job in either position. We need a similar player with that energy, but 19-20 who's eager to play, and happy to influence games from the bench. Bassette is clearly not going to be that player.
If I'm wrong, and BTA is happy with his role, then don't sell.

Bassette like Asante has shown he is not a natural finisher. Bassette's early promise was about being a willing runner and providing nuisance value. At the moment BTA is delivering both of those things better than Bassette.

Yesterday Asante deserves a lot of credit for his goal, it wasn't just a tap in.

If you watch, when Thomas heads the ball towards goal Asante has his back to the goal. As the ball goes over his head his eyes are tracking it, he is on the turn and following it in. Everyone else is flat on their feet. Asante is in the right place at the right time for the tap in but his movement has got him there.

Torp's goal came about through Asante keeping the ball alive hooking it back to Dasilva who then played Torp in. Asante stopped the ball going out of play.

To me Asante seems more mobile and has more zip about him this season. Which makes me wonder if he was only 85% fit last year. I think Lampard mentioned something about him having a hip problem. We know at times the squad was down the the bare bones post Christmas.

I thought he played really well, yesterday. I wonder how many commenting were at the game and how many on TV. I watched on TV, not enough points for this away game..He was involved in a lot of good things. Don't see him as a natural 9, but definitely worth his place in the squad.

Asante played well yesterday, but unbelievably some clown only gave him 4/10 on the players ratings thread???

It just unbelievable 🤷‍♂️

I was stood in front of 2 guys yesterday who slated him for the whole game, even when he scored. They were also at Da Silva most of the games, some supporters are just fixated on having someone to chastise.

I thought he played well but lets not be ridiculous, it was a tap in.

Him tracknig it with his eyes is a hilarious thing to praise him fo.

His inability to release a ball when he's running with it is incredibly frustrating and cost us 1, possibly 2 goals last season when he lost it in key areas.
But his work rate is fantastic and agree he played well yesterday even if there were a couple of examples of the aforementioned failures to release.

He also seems like the sort of fella it would be great going for a pint with so I hope this is the start of a succesful season for him.

I think some fans just get set in their opinions on players. Either ignore or be dismissive of the good stuff they do and jump on their first mistake.

It was like when Asante scored against St Pauli. Several fans by me responded by saying "I could have scored that.". Looking at them I doubt they have ever scored a goal in their life.

Aye-one of his major flaws, Carries the ball really well and then goes down a blind alley which ultimately sees us loose the ball.

All forwards are coached to follow in, its basics. But a lot don't. If he hadn't followed the header in he wouldn't have scored. It didn't just drop to his feet like a gift. He got himself there and was the first to react - hence why he wasn't off side.

But if you see no merit in that, that's your opinion.

I see why Frank prefers him to Simms. Think he has a bit more to offer even if he's a really frustrating watch at times.

If he can get rid of the habit of running with the ball and not laying the ball off before he runs himself down a rabbit hole! We would have a really quality player on our hands

Yes I think his failure to release the ball or take the wrong option is fair comment. Let's hope the coaches can work on that.

He seems to be at his best when he does things instinctively, not so good when he has time to think.

I recall one of the managers in the 70’s (might have been Shankly?) saying that when he was scouting a player he was always looking to see what he did when he had time.

I agree his reaction to the shot so he was ahead of the defence was what got him the opportunity, so got to give him credit for that.
