Is the pitch still a complete bog?
Would take a point tbf, then hopefully take the 3 against QPR at home.

I think it’s probably a good time to try the 4-4-2. They’ll be playing something similar and if it really isn’t working first 15, we can go back to a 4-2-3-1 and move Wright out wide.

Grimes and Torp in a 2 is petrifying though.

I would like to another solid defensive performance, defence is the key to a solid season and really think the goals are going to come eventually

I agree on your team and I think you're right with what he'll play - except I'd be very surprised if Dasilva doesn't start.

Not going to be but I’d be intrigued by that 442 again but with the first team. Of its 4231 again then I’d go Simms up top and Wright wide left.

Team I would pick

Rushworth
MvE Thomas Kitching Brau
Grimes
Rudoni Torp
Saka Simms Wright

Wilson, KKH, Dasilva, Bidwell, Allen, Andrews, Raphael, EMC, BTA

Dasilva has been decent recently but away I just fear he may be a bit more exposed.

Simms did enough to get the start, even if his performance wasn't amazing and he missed a couple of good opportunities. And whoever is there sing his song loud to show we're on his side. He's such a confidence player and I really think it'd help.

In the meantime can we change his training schedule so at least for a couple of hours he can spend time with the sports psychologist and they can drum into his head the good things he does as he seems to forget them the second he makes a mistake and dwells on that. Must have one of the biggest cases of imposter syndrome ever.

Sincerely hope that it's the first line up you put up. The thought of BTA starting again is thoroughly demoralising .
Left back is a proper problem.
Not sure we have one.
Brau looks slower than Kitch from what i saw last night. Like his aggression & commitment. Heading looked OK. But ... yeah we have a problem at LB...liked to have seen if KKH could of played there during friendlies.

I think Dasilva is our first choice at the moment, with Brau ready to come on in games where we are struggling defensively down our left. In fairness to Dasilva neither Haji nor EMC are as effective tracking back as Saka is on the other side.

Bidwell’s role at the moment seems to be as cover for Kitching.

Fairly sure this is tactical, you never see Lampard gesturing for them to get back when he's on the touchline.

I think it's an issue away from home particularly.

What I would play.

Think there’s something in the double striker and would like to see it in a league match. Still the same 3-1-6 shape in possession but giving wright and Rudoni the right to roam and find pockets. Be surprised if he plays it though

No Sakamoto? EMC isn’t good enough to defend in that formation either

I’m not saying you’re wrong but it strikes me as odd.

Why would you defend differently on one side of the pitch to the other, leaving us noticeably weaker on the left?

Rudoni needs to be central. 442 doesn't play to his strengths and he is our best player.
While he would start wide, he would naturally invert into the centre as the wingback would create the space wide. Since he often drifts wide and then crashes the box, seems a natural position esp as he would be free to roam?

It's not a natural position though and doesn't optimise the team. If he's central, he can drift left or right. If he's deployed out on the right in a 442, he has duties that come with that position. If he is allowed to roam free and float about, those duties get neglected. He could be stuck defending all game, helping the RB if the opponents are strong down that flank. He could be horrendously out of position, shold he be allowed to roam freely.

There is flexibility in most formations during attacking phases. But allowing a RM to roam freely in a 442, is not a good idea IMO. Add that to Rudoni being our most influential player, you want him on the ball as much as possible. It's a big no from me. We have too many decent central midfielders to not have 3 in there.

The answer isn't shuffling our best player about to try and get 2 fowards in. The answer is sorting out the forwards and not trying to shoehorn out of form players in, in the hope they turn it around. Said it for a while now. Get a proper no 9 in.

Great! See how far we have come, we actually have choices. Da Silva or Brau or Bidwell, Milan or KKH. For so long we expeected one good player in each position and a 'potential' or make do as cover, now look at us. We have a squad.
