I doubt he chooses where he plays tbf, it’s all down to Lampard as to how the team sets up. I’m clearly not a manager and I don’t know what’s best for the team as a whole, but the one thing I can’t help but feel is right is for Haji to play out wide. It frees up a striker spot allowing us to get a better striker in, whilst at the same time making the LW area more competitive. Bringing off Haji at 65 mins only to bring on EMC should make us see out games better.

We dont need a better striker than Haji to play CF.
We need to consistently play him in the position he wants to play, and have a stronger back up / different option to come off the bench or when he needs resting / is suspended / is injured.
He is our record signing for a reason, not to mention HE IS A FUCKING CF.

The obsession with Haji on the left is fucking mind boggling and it all spans from people seeing him on the ball more in a game and thinking its “effective”
We need him in the box finishing chances, not creating them for someone else.

Stop square pegging players we do have to create round holes for players we dont have.

Would people prefer to sell MVE and Rudoni and throw £20m at a random collection of players like the 2023/24?

Or keep the bulk of the squad that's got to the play offs and an FA Cup semi-final with a small number of additions?

The style of play on Saturday was not the issue. First half we created a few chances through the middle that a combination of good defending and poor finishing cost us, second half we started crossing more when Hull were more compact. Our main CF isn't fit after missing pre season, we looked more solid at the back which was the main weakness last season.
We've been linked with big money moves for a CB. People are just bored because the leaks have stopped and there's nothing to gossip about, 3 weeks left, chill out, we'll sign someone

Honestly the amount of people who think "strengthening" is just about buying new players, I see where the FM insults come from tbh

Dear god , can we all have a group hug and cheer up 😁
We still have very good players and a quality squad which will compete at the top end of the table throughout the season . I think when we see a couple of players moved on and a couple of loanees come in the squad will balance itself out .

Also the comparison to Stoke is plain weird , they nearly got relegated and needed a massive squad overhaul hence the amount of incomings . We just need to add quality and depth in a few areas and we will be fine

Would also be encouraging to see Andrews , Perry and Obikwu given some playing time tonight to see where they are as regards the first team squad

And how much potential to improve do you think Jamie Allen, Jake Bidwell and Brad collins have?

They aren't in our first 11. You want to sell back up players to replace with starters, and who are they replacing? Lampard and the coaches were selected primarily to help bring players on. The Likes of Simms, Wright, Rudoni etc. We can strengthen without just buying players

Allen came off the bench Saturday, we are 1 CB injury from Bidwell playing LCB?

This is serious cope at the lack of signings.

Granted a CB is needed because we sold binks. Allen is back up because Eccles and Sheaf are injured. You (and a few on here) need to get out of the mindset that everytime a player comes on that you don't rate that "we need to strengthen" Its not how it works.

So if at some point this season we have to play Allen, Bidwell and Raphael you wont be disappointed with how business has gone?

No, I would be questioning our fitness coaches though

For me it's clear that we are just in a really tricky situation, sort of between levels quality wise. As in we need to be trying to compete for players who are top end Champ players quality but we are probably just about the smallest fish in that pond. The money is clearly there considering the bids we have made but at this point we are struggling to rival what other teams can offer. I'm sure we have backups in mind but just don't want to go to early, just in case we can land some real quality.

Can't deny it's been dull this summer but I'm convinced we'll make additions still, we aren't picking up cast-offs or taking unknown punts based on a YouTube reel anymore... it's just way harder when other (better) teams are also interested in our targets. It's boring and easy to start fretting but relax, there is still time and we've made some quality signings already.

Tbf it is nice that we aren't just buying for the sake of it like days gone by. They seem more targeted acquisitions.

I'm relaxed as long as it doesn't turn into that Mowbray season where we try all summer to convince Kelvin Wilson (Bleak) to join only for him to feck us off for Rotherham.. so we end up with Nathan Clarke

Although some, including me, will call it LW it isn’t really that in our formation (433). It’s just a left sided CF. If you’re down the middle in a three you have two CBs to contend with, if you’re coming in from the left, you’re usually up against a smaller fullback and have more space. Left or right forwards are expected to come in and become a second central CF on occasions. Wright can bully and run at a FB but seems to struggle keeping two CBs occupied.

Thats how I see it anyway. Lampard probably leans more towards your view. Maybe once Wrights fully fit and firing he’ll deliver in that central role, just not seen it regularly for us so far (Sunderland league aside)

You would struggle to find a player as professional and as solid as Allen willing to sit on the bench.
Again, not wanting someone just to sit on the bench, someone who can rotate would be ideal.

It is very naive to think we have the squad split into 11 starters and the rest bench warmers.

We need to be able to rotate, especially when the season gets busy.

It appears that some on here want two starting 11's is the point. Absolutely need to rotate but you cant expect to have like for like stand ins. Look how weird it feels having MVE and KKH in the same squad, now imagine that across the whole 11

I think hoping for a better back up LCB than Bidwell is not wanting the world or a like for like stand in...

No I agreed earlier we need a new CB, we do not however, need a CM, LW,RW or an 8th keeper as has been suggested

Younprobably need toe sets of starting wingers and strikers because they run out of steam first and you want to try something different if they’re having no luck. You also want a couple of options at CM depending on opposition and game state. Add in a competent full back and centre back backup and you’re probably at about 17/18 you need first team quality if you want to make a go of it. We’re at maybe 12/13.
