Is it likely Lampard will play anyone other than Rushworth ? Last season he used the same keeper for both league and cup games.

Clearly neither of us knows what he will do.

All I can say is that, if it was my decision, I would play Wilson to (a) save Rushworth from getting injured in a match which - for me - is of lesser importance and (b) give him a chance of getting a bit of match sharpness in case Rushworth does injure himself.

As per always I'm happy to play a second string team in the League Cup, but want full strength teams in the FA Cup, as the importance, prestige and capacity to make money out of both is chalk and cheese.

To me the lower price of admission compensates for those upset at paying to watch an under strength team play. History tells you we are likely to play our squad players so if it bothers you too much don't buy a ticket expecting anymore. At the end of the day though if any our squad members have any pretensions about making it in the Championship, they should still be able to beat a team from a lower division, so it shouldn't be a given that we are definitely going to be knocked out by playing an under strength team. The likelihood is that the opposition will also play a changed team so we will not necessarily be playing Luton's strongest team anyway.

FWIW I would be quite happy for us to play the following and see if they sink or swim:
Wilson
KKH, Perry, Lati if fit (if not Kitching), Bidwell
Rodrigues, Allen, Andrews, Brau
Simms, Bassette (or Obikwu)

Have a strong bench if needed and hopefully they win regardless.
The thing with the first round of this cup is that it comes so early in the season we can use it as an extra more competitive friendly to get the first team to further understand tactics and instructions and to improve match fitness. Plus it gives a chance of a decent result that can build confidence, whereas losing to a lower league opposition does the exact opposite. Hence why I'd keep the team quite strong.

Yes, but it also presents us the best opportunity to blood young players like Perry, Andrews and Obikwu in a competitive match and see how they shape up without it going wrong and costing us points in the league. There is also the chance of having one of our important players injured in what is a relatively unimportant match and competition if we play our strongest team.

I would rather our first team are well rested ahead of the Derby game, rather than risk them getting leggy and losing a game we should win through them having fresher players than us.

I get that and I have been annoyed we haven't do so in the past.

With more subs now that's why I'd fill half of it with youngsters you can bring on if things are going to plan and first teamers to change the game if it's not. I've just seen us slip up too many times against lower opposition while playing weakened teams and it just ruins any momentum, even though they aren't the same players playing. I wouldn't however play any player with even a minor knock, hence why I'd leave Wright out the squad altogether.

If some of the youngsters were getting some minutes off the bench in league fixtures then by all means start them and see what they can do, but they're not. I would like to see Obikwu at some stage in that central striker role. I fear he'd be another on a hiding to nothing there, but all our other options aren't doing it either. If they can't do it against L1 opposition at home then give him a chance.

Rushworth
Kkh thomas kitching brau
Allan
Rodriguez torp kai skamoto
Simms

That would be my team to go with tomo. Blooding some of the youngsters to see what they are like in a semi competitive setting see if we have got lil gems in our acadamy. Simms to lead the line and hopefully builds on his goal against betis for confidence.

I would like to see Rushworth in goal for every minute of every match this season.
From what I saw on Saturday he is going to reduce our goals against by 15 ish.

We lose against Hull with Collins or Wilson in goal. There was enough chaos at times which Rushworth calmly and aggressively dealt with.

He was my man of the match.

We clearly both agree on Rushworth’s importance to us, which is why I would rest him tonight. I’m terrified of him getting injured and having to play Wilson or Collins for a run of league matches. In a competitive division that could cost us a shot at promotion.

Wonder if that player we were linked with (Lamine Fanne) will feature for them tonight... He has got a long time left on his contract, so I would be surprised if we went in for him (ie not best value for money)

If we are serious about getting Charlie Hughes then I can’t see us signing Lamine Fanne - or anyone else unless they are cheap or a loan - without selling MVE.

Wilson will 100% play.

Why? Literally what is the point?

might as well sell places to fans for a few grand at least that would help the transfer kitty.
