It's been reported we're considering going back in with an improved offer, if 20 million was the case we wouldn't even bother, he maybe a 20 million player in the future but not now, he's highly rated and you know him better then me but he was in a relegation battle last year and was at Wigan I believe the year before that, so that figure to me is way off.

Doug, Frank and the team see potential in this lad so I trust in what their doing.
Barnsley engaged in similar tactics before Kitching was allowed to leave. Who to be honest while he improved under FL, hasn’t particularly lived up to the fee.

Do you think you’d accept a 8 million plus add ons bid?
I don’t think we would.

While we could take a decent chunk out of our debt, realistically we could wait 12 months and take a much bigger chunk off it.

We got £15million (+£3 million add ons) from Ipswich for Greaves. Hughes just needs another season in the Championship to show his quality and I can see any of the 3 promoted clubs willing to pay at least this.

To make a CB our club record signing, he’d need to be the real deal and a few steps up from our current duo. Which he might well be tbf, I’m just still a little stunned at the amount we apparently bid for Rushworth and are now linked with here.
Did we really bid for Rushworth ? There are reports a club did but doesn't mean we did.

Could possibly be agent whispers trying to get such a club to bid then.

Reminds me of the dance we played to get Kitching. This is probably one which goes to the final week.

He did improve under Lampard and tbf I like Kitch, aggressive and plays with fire in his belly, I hope we do pull off this transfer tho! I don't know Hughes like the Hull poster above does but I've heard he's highly rated, not just at hull, but amongst those who cover the EFL plus the Hull poster listed off his strengths and he sounds brilliant

Not many clubs get 20 million on a 21 year old with under 50 games in the 2nd tier and as with anything in football there is always a risk of long term injury etc between now and next may .

Surely a figure of 10 -12 with add ons is ample for a player who has under 50 appearances at this level you signed for 3.5 a year ago

What are your thoughts ?

Greaves is a really good player I do like him

Kitching’s problem is his lack of speed and balance. I just find it difficult to believe we are seriously in for this chap even at this price.

Only Milan and Kaine ( not seen it yet but he's supposed to be rapid) I'm probably quicker then Kitch lol.

Skysports news has reported it so there has to be some truth to it, either way we will see what happens, it's been slow but we just have to trust them

Also a risk of another season is he blows his ACL or achilles and that money is gone completely - or you go down and his value is halved etc. Understand the logic but not sure owners in football would think the same way about such a volatile asset!

Understand your points around looking good in pre-season and being more optimistic but the neutrals all seem fairly aligned that your squad is light on attacking talent and incredibly thin with an fairly unproven manager.

Afternoon chaps and chapesses. Hull fan here - thought I’d give you my thoughts on Charlie Hughes.

Hughes will undoubtedly go on to be a Premier League footballer, he is that good. He’s just been made our captain since Coyle got injured and is destined to be a leader moving forward.

His biggest attributes are hard to single out because he is a beast in the air, strong in the tackle and reads the game really well. Surprisingly though, I think his best attributes are his composure on the ball, followed by his great range of passing.

It would be a major surprise if we sold him (despite our predicament) because I believe he will go for £15million plus at the end of the season. I think he is better than Greaves and will end up at a top 6 club (perhaps not in his next move but a Premier League stepping stone).

Conspiracy theories could include it being leaked from your end to unsettle the player, but also don’t rule out it coming from our end - somewhat of a coincidence that on the day we need to justify our finances to the EFL a £10million-ish asset is revealed.

The result of our hearing should be known by the end of the week (if it’s not leaked before) and selling right now makes no sense.

Our new manager in an hour long radio interview in the last couple of days said he is a £20million player and is simply not for sale - that was after the Sheff Utd interest. Selles obviously knows his worth but I honestly expect us to cash in next season.

Someone on their forum said the hearing is today but result of it not until September?
The appeal was today and result expected in about 2 days.

They have paid the money owed but it's now down to cash flow. I wouldn't be surprised if it went to 1 transfer window but also suspended. So a big money sale would be exactly what they would need to bring in the players to save them from relegation.

Not always speed as well with the centre halves - people saying Hughes reads the game well which I think is another real issue in Kitching's game and why he gets consistently caught out by the ball over the top.
I’m not especially convinced by the defensive capabilities of at least 3 of the back 4, which is understandable for a team that conceded awful goals for fun last season. I wouldn’t object to binning the lot off and starting over from scratch-clearly not realistic, just what I think about the defence in general.

who was the poster who said to watch out for Cov activity involving West Brom ? Any updates on that ?
I wonder if there was a centre back we were interested in?

Would be interesting to see if they are a back up plan to Hughes/Doyle if we can't get a deal agreed with one or both of these names..
