Currently feeling a bit meh about the season. Nothing to do with lack of signings or people leaving....I've just not got into any level of excitement yet. Maybe it will happen Saturday morning!!

The thread is about how you feel for the season and if that’s nervous. The answer is badly underwhelmed and the transfer window has done very little to cause excitement. A couple of miserable performances in preseason hasn’t helped either.

Only real highlight in the offs season has been how many STs we have sold, which is incredible for us.

This is the first start of a season without Robins or AV since 2016 and it genuinely feels underwhelming compared to the wave we have been on and incredible heights achieved.

If you want pure sweetness and light, find a my little pony forum.

‘You’re fun at parties’ is a dogshit, middle aged man’s line anyway.
Not as underwhelming as our play off season? We only signed Kasey Palmer.

The retention rate is high 90% of a squad that came 5th with our best player out injured for the majority of it. We have a big squad. What were you hoping for?

In the meantime, we've replaced the biggest weakness in the side in our goalkeeper, and we've signed the best player from one of the competitors, I can't agree with the comments on lampard either. Hes is a big name, Who's just took us from 17th to 5th last season with more aura about him then any of our managers in a big time.

Robins has gone - Its time to move on.

I have to say I'm very similar at the moment. Expect that'll change around 10ish when I'm getting ready to head up to the ground though!

(+ Callum Doyle) Yes but we retained Gyokeres and Hamer, two of the best players in the league the previous season. MVE and Rudoni are not as make or break as those two.

It feels like we’re not as close to getting back to the PL as we were in 2023. This transfer window has been insipid. We don’t have any game deciding players to the level of Gyokeres or Hamer and this summer, none of the major issues have been resolved in attack and we still have too many strikers that can’t score at the club.

We haven’t signed Lampard as a player in his 20s. What aura exactly? His big name has helped to land who? Matty Grimes and a Preston loanee?

Lampard couldn’t get us past a semi final and didn't inherit as bad a form or situation as you are implying.

Looking at the comments as well, and most have us in the play offs. Not sure about Birmingham in the auto's though...

Last years Play Off semi finalists beat the Play Off Finalists.

It’s just a better team.

Amalgamate them both and they would’ve stayed up in the Premier League.

Dovin
MVE Thomas Fadz ?
Grimes
Hamer Rudoni
Hadji Gyo Mason-Clarke

Only weakness is Left Back-and CB as I felt that Fadz got dominated in the final.

Hamer gets injured we have Sheaf.

Some good points that I agree with like Southampton. But yes the Birmingham one is all down to hype like he said himself. Can't disagree with Ipswich though.

The FIFA/ Football Manager generation are never going to be happy unless we are making 8 signings every Summer. Occasionally clubs do recruit like that (Birmingham and Wrexham this Summer for example) but there are no guarantees it will work out for them. In reality though, unless we lose Rudoni and/ or Wright before the transfer deadline I think we are in a decent position to carry on where we left off, but hopefully this season we have a decent start instead. I think we are likely to bring in one or two extra players before the deadline anyway, possibly PL loans which often can't be sorted until the end of August, so I will wait until then before joining the doom mongers.

While some of our opposition have been busy bringing in new players, they have had more need to do so than us and I don't see many players that I would have been desperate for us to sign instead. Those teams might also take a while before they take shape, giving us a useful headstart over them. Let's hope so anyway.

The elephant in the room is the goalkeeper. On Saturday he was as bad as Collins ever was in the first half and hopefully he has got that out of system but I worry that he has not inspired confidence in the defenders.
Eric McManus vibes for the older brethren.
Any relation to Mick McManus?

Agree with a lot of this. Feels like the first year we haven’t moved forwards as a squad for a long time. Team still doesn’t look particularly cohesive even after a pre season. Signings are all a bit meh, any excitement for Rushworth went with his Collins impression. KKH is a downgrade on MvE and MvE was the last player with any personality left. Brau isn’t even a starter. Can’t see past a stuttering season and upper mid table at best this year, we seem a million miles from promotion any time soon. We aren’t getting big fees for our players and are relying on £4-5m signings as we seem to have stopped being able to pick up bargains. Add in the stadium nonsense rearing its head again and let’s just say I hope either the football starts and proves me wrong or we’re about to have the busiest month in transfer history.

What is it you actually want?

You don’t actually care about the football? You’re only interested in be drama that surrounds it?

Side that’s just finished 5th, despite a horrific start. With everyone under contract, no loan players lost, and two of our most concerning positions strengthened

The shit we’ve been through over the years, and you want more upheaval.

What?

I thought we got found out by better teams last year. We struggle to break teams down if they sit in and we have a defence that can relied on to give a goal up if you wait. If we want to get better or even if I want to watch better football we need better. We need options out wide for when it isn’t working. We need a CB who can organise the defence or at least make fewer errors and defend his box. The wide players we have need to step up their end product and if we keep Wright he needs to start performing regularly up front.

Want more upheaval when I’ve said I’m sick of the stadium shite reading its head?

I think you need to lay off the crack pipe tbh.

It’s the same squad that finished 5th, albeit strengthened at full back and in goal. And yet you want the busiest transfer month in our history?

And your writing off a proven GK, player of the season for Swansea, after a pre-season friendly

Are are concerned about KKH, another player of the season

New season starts the same as every other one. Full of optimism that this is our year.

By 3pm Saturday reality will kick in. 70% possession but lose 1 nil to their only shot on target after Sheaf gives the ball away 35 yards from goal, JDS is caught out of position ball watching, Kitch comes flying out of defence to attempt a tackle but gets nowhere near the ball or the player and the keeper lets a soft shot through his legs. Simms gets slated for not running enough, Wright comes on as a sub but looks uninterested and EMC gets injured. Ref will be shit, linos worse.

Anything I've missed?

Yeah the squad hasn’t improved. As I said. If you’re excited then fine, maybe don’t post in the thread of people saying they’re not?

I wanted improvements to the first team outfield, it hasn’t improved, it’s arguably got worse. So I’m not as excited as previous seasons. I’m really not sure why this has upset you so much.

How can a squad that has only lost Binks, have got worse?

Because we’re likely to lose MvE, that’s why KKH was signed. And some players like Simms who were coming off a good season last year have dropped off the face of the earth this year. Sheaf is in decline, Allen, Bidwell. Players don’t just stay where they are. The only change to the outfield so far is likely to be KKH for MvE and for me that’s a downgrade. But nice job jumping from first team to squad to try and prove a point. We’ve also lost Tavares and Paterson who while both shit did occasionally do a job on the wings. So we’ve lost cover in several places not just CB no matter how shit it was.

Hope is the thing with feathers
That perches in the soul,
And sings the tune without the words,
And never stops at all,
And sweetest in the gale is heard;
And sore must be the storm
That could abash the little bird
That kept so many warm.
I've heard it in the chillest land,
And on the strangest sea;
Yet, never, in extremity,
It asked a crumb of me.

So we're worse off mainly because we've got rid of players you call shit?

You mentioned Simms dropping off the face of the earth. That was last season. That's not him making us weaker this season.

KKH looks good going forward. We will see how good he is defensively but you speak as though it's a downgrade without him playing in anger. It does release funds to strengthen elsewhere.

Good to see the annual pre-season doom and gloom is alive and well.

I wouldn’t even mind but it’s totally unfounded. Even if we stayed completely still we still finished 5th last season. We would be competitive.

lord alone knows what these people would be like if we sold rudoni.

I mean even if we stay still, it doesn't mean other teams are. Your point doesn't make much sense.

why? I’m not on about other teams. Who knows anyway if they have stood still or not?

Watford have signed 9 players but got rid of 9 players. Have they stood still?
