For me that was pretty dull.
Get the ball wide and get crosses in is our plan.

Going forward - somebody hit the nail on the head earlier - very pre-empted and formulaic.

No real flair or excitement - Mason Clarke makes some very weird runs off the ball for a wide player. (And doesn't like to go past a man - only managed it a couple times today)

BTA ran around a bit (as per) but we can't have anybody waste chances if that is all we create.

Simms - ball straight in to his head - nods it in. Then Powder -puffs about and costs us a goal.

Having to bring Bidwell on at LCB highlights and issue there.

KKH.done his ankle - but would have MVE start there all day long regardless.

Not really excited for next week to be honest!

What says everyone else!?!

Have you really came away from that game with no positives? If so you're in for a long old season

We've had some great pre-season results (last season) and started poorly.

We've had some poor pre-seasons results and started well. 2015 springs to mind. I remember going to Nuneaton to watch us play Oxford. Adam Armstrong looked horrendous and we barely created a chance.

A mix of results with some good signs. Ultimately we've just played a European finalist (who beat Sunderland today) and drawn. We have also drawn to a Bundesliga side.

I'm happy we are going into next week with a very settled squad of players.

Think that game is the best representation so far of what we will look like this season:

- We look to dominate the ball against a team who is happy to counter attack
- Get the ball wide and swing crosses in
- Press well in patches but not for the full 90
- Get punished for stupid mistakes at the back
Sounds a familiar story from last season and no plan B again.

Ok. Poor turn of phrase - I'm not absolutely buzzing going in to the season. Think it will be a lot more difficult than people think. Especially Hull next week.

Positives are Rushworth - an actual goalkeeper that can keep goal! (Think we'll see less of the messing around from next week)
We have some very good midfielders - although very similar.
Bit of depth at LB with Dasilva and Brau.

Yeah and we still have soft goal mistakes in us and have all the possession and do very little with it.

We’re like a pack of Lions with no teeth or nails.

I think you need a new mattress with the amount of bedwetting you do

It sounds like his attitude hasn’t helped him out either.
He's got form - think he openly said he was too good for his previous side (or something along those lines)

Sadly for us and him, our style of play is just the opposite of how he wants to play - Off the shoulder of the last man using pace in behind.

Just hadn't worked out for him/is.

EMC had a good game. We needed way more from Sakamoto the other side.

Maybe it says more about me becoming a bit of a bore, but Grimes has fast become my one of my favourite players, completely dictates the game, and doesn't make me nervous like a lot of the rest of the team do in possession. Da Silva has been the suprise for me this pre season, all of a sudden I'm not worried about the left back decision as both left full backs (excluding Bidwell) are solid options.

I think we play better with one up top, BTA on his own up top seemed alright, if you give those chances to a clinical striker that game is a comfortable win for us today. BTAs best quality is his tireless chasing of the ball, it actually worked a lot today, if Haji just added that a bit more to his game, I'd be more than comfortable having Haji play up top alone as he's a much better finisher. Final note... Simms' goal papered over the cracks, his awkward attempt at trying to hold the ball up put us under pressure and immediately a goal, I actually feel sorry for him, just as he gets some confidence, he immediately finds a way to undo it

All in all, I feel similar to how I did against Betis, I'm happy with the patterns in play, the midfield looks strong, wingers and fullbacks cause problems but our defending and uncertainty on our strikers is why I think well struggle to push on from last season..as always, hope I'm wrong.

Probably rested again

Yes indeed, I spoke to Jack Rudoni in corporate before the game and I asked him if he is injured and he replied with, no I'm being rested. 🥵

For me we have the same strengths and weaknesses as before. Too slow and ponderous at times, still quite prone to going backwards and giving the ball away in unfortunate areas. On the other hand, we’re still threatening a lot from set pieces and balls into the box and when we resist the slow tempo stuff, produce some lovely football.
