In a league game with a strong bench Lampard’s comments could be seen as a challenge for Norm to step it up and earn a place.

In a friendly with Justin Obikwu on the bench those comments suggest to me he’s probably done here at worst or heading out on loan at best.

After a (fleeting) promising start he’s shown bugger all in the majority of his appearances to suggest he’s got it in my opinion. That said, unless a permanent move will generate sufficient funds to bring a striker of note in, a loan would be sensible in case he does come good after a full season of regular football.

'Great potential' is excessive. On the whole he looked dreadful last season and showed very little to indicate he could become a success at this level. His attitude is also highly questionable.

Yeh wow, that is very telling. Sounds like his attitude - which I think there were reservations about when he signed and that we've seen glimpses of - is getting in the way of his progress. Maybe he is destined for a permanent exit sooner rather than later if not careful.

FL talks a lot about attitude, so i imagine he puts that very high on his list of things he looks at when evaluating players. Norm and Rod id say have been put under the microscope of FL and 1 seems to be handling it better than the other.

The logic of 'remember how Vik started with us' is frankly idiotic. By that same logic we shouldn't let any young player go in case they make it. Most sensible posters actually saw that there was a lot of potential with Vik.

Also, people make out he was awful when he first came when that's not true at all. Granted he was very raw, but there was a lot of positives for Robins and Adi to work with and he clearly had ability.

He clearly has something which is why he's a Belgian U21 international and has been called up to the senior side to get some experience around that group and getting some token minutes. So they clearly see something in him.

I agree but ability doesnt mean anything if the manager and coaches want a good attitude to learn with it. Norm not in the squad yesterday wasn't tactical, it was more a lesson to see his reaction.

I think there's a fundamental difference between pressing and running around aimlessly.

He lacks any kind of composure on the ball, snatches at shots, his positioning is completely all over the place, he doesn't understand when to make runs and when to hold back, and his general awareness is atrocious as he doesn't ever look up and assess who is around him.

I'm not saying there's nothing to work with whatsoever, but at this stage I wouldn't say he has a proficient aspect or aspects to his game that indicates he'll seriously push on to become a decent player.

Certainly not without huge amount of work and probably an attitude change.

True and reading between the lines, Bassette has been unhappy he's not getting game time but whenever he had game time he hasn't made an impact. If he's going to be a frustrated figure and negatively impact the group, then its for the best we move him on.

I do think Robins/recruitment team made a massive mistake signing 2 additional strikers for 1 starting berth because it lead to him chopping and changing the team too much and in the end, all it did was disrupt everyone's flow.

And its not the 1st time he mentioned attitude pointing out young players not understanding the responsibility they have. Tatsu was used last season to make the same pont, Norm is not understanding, not listening or doesn't care. Either way he will not win this battle, he will have to conform or go.

FL in my opinion has already made his mind up, but will not say it as attitude puts potential buying clubs off

There are raw materials to work with but his work in the box is pretty poor and highlighted by commentators who've watched us and him play.

If he's not willing to put the work in to improve and his ego inflated to the point where it impacts the wider group... move him on.

Exactly I don't really understand why that's so baffling for people when there's obvious areas in the team that would benefit from significant investment. A fee generated from his sale could probably be put to better use than him staying or being loaned out.

I also get the impression that he's got that much of an ego that if we did loan him out he wouldn't want to come back.

Totally agree. Norman said FL rates him so the great journalist who follow us, have the headlines FL rates Bassette, it doesn't mention it came from Norman and not FL (haha). He is a loveable rogue and they are missing from football at present so when he came on the scene we fell for him. However, he rates himself already, which isn't a bad thing if you can produce and at present he doesn't, will that change? I really don't know, or I really hope he doesn't change as he doesn't have a problem other than he doesn't take things seriously. A season loan with a right to keep or the right to buy if the price is right would be best for everyone. In a year we have gone from having a really potent forward line to one that really doesn't know where to go. FL has played in teams where there were few forwards in the team and midfielders were encourage to score, like FL himself, and that's why all our midfielders say they love working with him, on the other hand, our forward don't say a thing.

I don't disagree, but he is only 20 and moved to a new country and a new league aged 19. Vik was 22 when he joined us on loan and 23 when we signed him permanently. There's no need to make any rash decisions on him, but a loan where he's going to play week in week out would really aid his development.

From all the evidence I've seen, he seems to get on when with all the players, so it's doesn't appear he's upsetting the group, that's conjecture.

It sounds like it's an attitude issue with him. Not in terms of acting up or anything but in terms of commitment and effort. From what Frank has been saying he's not putting enough effort in and just coasting through training.

At the end of last season he also praised the attitude of Allen and Latibeaudiere towards training even if they weren't in the team or just on the bench. They get their heads down get on with it and wait for their opportunity.

Some young players could learn from that rather than banging my door asking why aren't they playing. Well I know the level that is required.

At the time several people guessed Bassett was the most likely candidate he was referring to.

Norm has gone backwards. He was getting good reviews during our live games on sky, the Sheff Utd one where he got their player sent off masks the fact he was a right nuisance and making the runs.

But more recent cameo appearances he's literally ran the ball straight out of play and looks out his depth. It's why a loan makes sense.

He came in confident, and now his confidence has hit the floor and we're judging him on 7 mins where his confidence is at a low. which inevitably affects performance.

I think his appeal is obvious really - people like to see players who shithouse (the Dark Arts!!) and play with fan-level intensity. I just don’t think he currently has the football intelligence or skill to back it up yet.
