Preston North End have signed striker Michael Smith on a free transfer and brought in goalkeeper Jack Walton from Luton Town for an undisclosed fee.

Smith, 33, left Sheffield Wednesday last week after his contract was ended "by mutual consent".

I've read somewhere that Derby are getting Owen Beck on loan from Liverpool (Blackburn last season) Young left back with promise. Derby have had quite an influx of players, Carlton Morris, Brittain, Danny Batth, Weimann and that American striker, Agyemang.

Birmingham bidding on an elderly German and their fans are frothing one off to it. Seem to have adopted the kind of strategy I was expecting of Wrexham.
Not a strategy I'd want from us at all, relies heavily on it working out this season which is far from a given in this league. Fail and you're stuck with a pile of well paid, aging players with zero sell on value.

Backed by some to be dark horses next year by the looks of it. I think Eustace is one of the better managers in this division as well so it wouldn't surprise me to see them in the top 8/10 this year

Hopefully the American gets bored and pisses off.
It's a hedge fund, they want the land and Blues are a vehicle to get it. I suspect a lot of the plans are pie in the sky. The stadium obviously relies on Blues being a Prem team and let's face it, even then it's a joke.

Well exactly. If by some good fortune we went up and stabilised in the top flight, I think 40,000 wouldn’t be ridiculous, maybe more. 60,000 however is madness.

Yes I agree, crowds have gone up, if we were a Prem team I think we could justify 40k, 45k if you're generous and want the odd bumper crowd for big games.
Anything higher would be ludicrous and the same applies to Birmingham City. They however appear to be under the delusion they are the Midland answer to Real Madrid.

With the money they have spent they should do better than that, but not many would get into our side as things stand. Think we will end up 2nd to 4th and Brum 6th to 8th.

Yeh I don't rate Derbys business tbh. Good manager though, counts for a lot.

Blatantly hope we do but I genuinely can't see us being the 2nd best team in the division

Villa have always been the bigger club and don’t pull in 60,000, though I suspect with regular CL football they soon would. As I said before, Birmingham fans have turned into that Harry Enfield parody of themselves

2nd to 4th.

Can't see much past Ipswich 1st.

Leicester could well be in big trouble. Stuck with players on massive wages they can't shift and a looming points deduction.

Southampton i can see going either way. They've lost their best defender on a free and other players are looking to leave. Can Will Still make it as a Championship manager?

Sheffield United look to be relying on loans again. If Hamer leaves they could struggle to even make the top 6. Add to this a new manager.

Birmingham have spent big but have they spent wisely? Also a big jump for some of their players.

I haven't seen much business by anyone else to make me think they will vastly improve from last season although there's normally a side or two that surpasses expectations.
