Can’t blame Dolan tbh. He’s been a championship regular for the last 3.5 years on less than £10k a week.

If I was one of my teams best players and earned less than half what some of the benchwarmers did I’d want my next contract to be huge to make up for it.
Oh I don't blame him at all, but that is what's going on. The only other possibility is he has no interest, and I find that very unlikely.

Jay Stansfield cost as much as Rudoni, MVE, EMC and Sakamoto combined.
Norwich new USA owner, who has a lot of experience owning a sports team over there, had a sideways dig at the owners from over the pond in the Championship. Says having money doesn't mean all that, unless you spend it wisely and have the right coach. I interpreted this as a dig against Birmingham and Wrexham.
Norwich appear to have done good business. Depends if the guy from Bristol can turn around their fortunes.

Norwich were a strange side last year, whose players seemed to underperform mostly out of spite against the manager. The issue Birmingham will find is that clubs and players alike will sniff a big payday and demand silly money.

While we aren't spending the sorts of fees they are, we're going about our business more quietly and dare I say more professionally.

Not necessarily. He got player of the year for a championship side last season. He clearly has ability and could easily prove to be a better option
Yet you can't see him playing as LB, the position he played for about 1/3 of last season if MVE is still with us? 🤔

Just haggling for more cash before he decides

I dont think that is necessarily true. He has said he now has plenty of experience at Championship level and he thinks he is ready for the step up to Premier League.

He is basically doing what Calum OHare did and is biding his time hoping a Premier League club comes in for him towards the end of the window. Like Calum, I don’t think they will and he will end up at a top Championship side.

He'll be waiting for a long time, PL quality he is not.

I still think he’d be an excellent signing for us given his output and age. Think the original rumours sound like they were agent talk though so probably not happening.
I agree, good Championship player. Just not top flight quality, and nor are the majority of players in the league.

No because we've just signed a left back who was going to sign even if we got promoted!

but has the new left back been signed to go straight into the team or is he a Rapha like project? We will find out in the next few friendlies I guess, but if the Monaco game is a guide he will be nowhere near the first team anytime soon, when he looked well out of his depth.

What on earth are you on?
He was going to sign for us even if we got promoted , he's come from a league of a similar standard .
What part of that suggests he is a Rapha type project ? And if we're taking the Monaco game as a benchmark in preseason we might as well bin off 15-16 players

He’s coming from Spanish 2nd tier which is nowhere near a similar level to the championship in fact according to Opta Stats there’s about 20 places different in league ratings.
Hopefully he is good enough though.

Europe's transfer market is agitated, and one of the names that attract attention comes from Venezuela. Midfielder Daniel Pereira, from Austin FC, from the United States, is close to closing with Coventry City, from the second division of English football.

The RTI Esporte Agency found that the negotiation is around US$ 4 million (R$ 22.3 million, at the current price). The talks are at an advanced stage and may be officially announced in the coming days by Coventry City.

At the age of 25, Daniel Pereira has stood out for his vision of the game, marking ability and quality in the ball output. Sources close to the operation say that the board of the English club sees in the Venezuelan a key piece for the 2025/2026 season.

The go to English football represents an important leap in the player's trajectory. The Championship, the equivalent of Series B of the Brazilian Championship, is known for its intense rhythm, competitiveness and strong presence of fans.

Also according to the report, Daniel Pereira, in addition to Coventry City, also received contacts from Birmingham City and Derby County, both from England. However, he ended up being sensitised to the club's sports project that is based northwest of London.

The player's relay has been working behind the scenes to finalise the negotiation in the coming days. This is because there is an understanding that playing the EFL Championship also means more visibility. And this exhibition can open doors to the Premier League.

If he can cope with these challenges, Daniel Pereira has the potential to shine. The talent is there. Now, he needs to show that he can turn a bet into reality. England can be the stage where the Venezuelan will write the next chapter of his career.

How long will Daniel Pereira's contract with Austin FC last?

First of all, Daniel Pereira has been at Austin FC since 2021. At the time, he ended up being the club's first choice in the MLS SuperDraft. This is because he had stood out in the Virginia Tech Hokies university team between 2019 and 2020.

Since then, he has played more than 100 matches for the North American team. In the meantime, he scored 5 goals and made 11 assists. In addition, the player adds calls to Venezuela's main team. His contract with Austin FC ends in December 2025.

Seems a lot of money with his contract running out in December

According to other stats sites there is very little difference . On one site Championship is rated 76.2 and Laliga2 is 74.2
It is comparable to Series B and Bundesliga 2

None of which are comparable quality wise. I’m not arguing what he’s been brought in for, personally I think they see him as being ready but it is a step up in quality and time will tell.
Personally I think people need to give Rapha a break he was doing well in Aus at the top level which alright it’s poor but he’s young.
Hopefully they both have great seasons.

Yes, but I've seen the other 15-16 players already. Brau was a new signing so I paid particular attention to him, and he looked poor, even amongst a team as a whole that looked poor. It was only a friendly however, and of course he will still be finding his feet with us, so I hope and trust there is much more to come from him. I just think those presuming he will hit the ground running and be a starter against Hull are likely to be disappointed.

I don't think many people are expecting him to be in the starting 11 .
