We still don’t know what type of player Lampard wants or rates.

Grimes and KKH were long term targets for the club by his own admission , and I very much doubt Brau is anything other than a calculated risk from the scouting team.

hooefully we will know more over the next few weeks

Wasn't Brau going to be signed if we went up ?
I think he is highly rated and not so much of a risk

I’d imagine he still gives the go ahead on them though. I doubt he’s having players forced on him with no say.

I think Bassette has potential, hes still a kid and learning the game, moved to a different country, and realistically he was only playing last season as Simms and BTA are both useless. Let's give him time and see how he does, and long term he's the sort of signing we should be making, young lads that are showing good potential that we can train up in the background.

Round pegs for round holes.

Other than that he has signed 3 players so far. One is excellent at what he does, one looks like he could go to the very top and the other is promising and will be given to the coaches to help improve and get used to the Championship.

Youd imagine things will start really moving ins and outs wise this week now the tours out the way and there's less than a month until.opening day
You'd hope so. Got this niggling feeling that MVE will go and the money will be used to strengthen in Jan if needed. Don't know why, just a hunch

Needs to go out on loan for a season before we start talking about him playing and scoring in the PL.
Definitely ready for a loan, but I think he has all the attributes to be a top striker, he still has much to learn, but a full season in league 1 would be great experience for him.

With Bassette and Obikwu in our ranks we look good for future strikers,
We just need someone who's ready now.

I expect it to depend on how early any funds received comes in. Seems more like we have targets lined up and ready to go. But any last minute sales might not leave us time to complete the negotiations.

I’m sure he will have the final say but the new model across football is that the managers choose from a shortlist provided by the scouting team and approved by the owner.

We know under Robins this was also the case but he occasionally signed players that he strongly liked too such as BTA and Waghorn.

We have not seen any of those from Frank yet

That’s the strange thing about football … someone always wants the outs.
Always players that will want move for various, looks like majority of them enjoy environment, but some will know game time will be limited - Simms/BTA for example - regardless of views - there will be clubs interested in those pair.

wonder if Wednesday’s match is last chance saloon for couple also to convince FL et al.

I suspect it will be another 22 player training session, everyone gets 45mins and players who are fringe but did not feature on Sat will replace fringe players who did feature then.

That is a very definitive statement, as if you are actually have insider knowledge of what actually goes on with transfers. Do you have proof Robins definitely had the final say on Waghorn and BTA? Incidentally, the latter may yet prove to be a good signing.
I have no knowledge of how things work at the City. However, all articles I have read in the last few years indicate power being taken away from managers and being placed in the hands of a committee. Thus the rise of the dreaded Director of Football. Managers have strong input, it is claimed, but not the final say. At some bigger clubs, they have less say and are there to concentrate on coaching.
Not rocket science where our Recruitment Team have been looking. We needed to improve or cover wingbacks this season. Loads on here were calling for a midfielder who could control games. Hence, we got Grimes. We all know we need cover at Right wing, if the right player is available at the right price.

Based on his comments Grimes seems absolutely a player Lampard wanted (which went against our transfer policy).

Wouldn't be shocked to hear Lampard pulled rank for him

Grimes ticked most of the boxes for what we were lacking in midfield. Shame he is not a goalscorer, although he would have cost way more. Older players are sometimes a gamble because they may be more injury prone and suddenly drop off. See Godden for us. However, some outfield players can still be brilliant into their late 30s.
Teams like PSG are moving towards young talented players with around three older heads to tie it all together, even though they play an insane pressing game. I feel Lampard wants us to play that way, but realised early on, and mentioned, our players were not fit enough.
Agree, it appeared our policy on older players appeared to change. Loaning players may also alter, depending who is available.
I don't dispute Lampard will have strong opinions on what he wants and that may well influence final decisions.

Hasn't he already had a couple, might get six out of him next season?

I don’t disagree on that, Grimes for me is the first name in the team sheet at the moment apart from maybe Rudoni, think he is brilliant.

Just re read Lampard’s interview, think it’s interesting how he’s pointed out as a long admirer of him from his Derby games. Can’t see anything on him being a target pre-Lampard about from him saying we’ve admired him. Did we try and pick him up under Robins?
