The really bad news is that Harry Pollitt was drummed out of football after his Coventry side were found to have bribed Bury with £200 to “go easy on them” as they attempted to fight ‘re-election’ in their first season in the football league. After beating Bury 2-1, City finished third from bottom and didn’t have to seek re-election. Three years later the FA fined both clubs for fixing the match and Pollitt was banned from football for life.

Ah! I was gonna say! I googled both and couldn’t find a connection but the same man’s (the communist man) picture came up.
Less interesting. Although I’m not sure I knew much about the Bury Scandal.
