Messi? We were very close to signing a star from the MLS a couple of seasons ago.
In January more likeHe was persona non grata about a year agofickle fanbase we are
To be honest I’d say his record in terms of identifying new talent has been pretty average by our recent standards. Very few of his signings have been slam dunk successes. He was persona non grata about a year agofickle fanbase we are
Longer ago than that, people thought last summers recruitment was shite and then everyone thought he stabbed Robins in the back and got him sacked iircIn January more like
Messi?
That's what I felt and his grammar is not very good lol.Good interview but for me it was a bit fluffy, no real detail and a lot of buzz words "process, vision, etc". But let's see how we roll this summer, I do like that he called out his job security and performance!
To be fair to him, he spent roughly 3 months working more or less alone as our scouting system had pretty much gone.To be honest I’d say his record in terms of identifying new talent has been pretty average by our recent standards. Very few of his signings have been slam dunk successes.
At the time, significant proportion of the fanbase couldn’t countenance the idea that it was in fact Robins who had made strategic mistakes and dug his own grave.Longer ago than that, people thought last summers recruitment was shite and then everyone thought he stabbed Robins in the back and got him sacked iirc
As far as recruitment goes, I’d say he’s been dealt the best hand the club has offered in years! He hasn’t done terribly by any stretch but I don’t think he’s been outstanding either. To be fair to him, he spent roughly 3 months working more or less alone as our scouting system had pretty much gone.
He had about 3/4 weeks before his first window and brought in McNally, Norton Cuffy and Wilson Esbrand, IIRC. Which wasn't too bad.
For the 2nd window he was dealing with 2 lists of players, 1 for the Premier League and 1 for the Championship. With little overlap and little ability to commit to anything before the playoffs were over. And I think the playoff final was a little later than usual that year which won't have hoped.
That's fair. There were just some terrible overreactions to how things started out last season. As far as recruitment goes, I’d say he’s been dealt the best hand the club has offered in years! He hasn’t done terribly by any stretch but I don’t think he’s been outstanding either.
The squad was underperforming up until January let's be honestAt the time, significant proportion of the fanbase couldn’t countenance the idea that it was in fact Robins who had made strategic mistakes and dug his own grave.
It took Lampard coming in and turning the season around to prove that the players were in fact, more than capable of living up to the pre-season hype.

Don't disagree for a minute on that point, but the two full seasons he's had a hand in were arguably the best two we've seen in a very long time with a platform in place to keep pushing. Big picture, I feel like when you look at bang for buck, he's done above average.

I love MR and always will, but he is a manager who will get a limited squad earning peanuts to overperform their ability as opposed to one who will get higher paid egos to their full potential
It sounds unappreciative but the sad reality on reflection and with hindsight is that we may have outgrown him
more than any head of recruitment...
That's what I felt and his grammar is not very good lol.
Obviously reverse psychology...I think it will be a long old wait“I always say ‘see the brain wait for the body’”
*signs Ellis Simms*
Bringing in Grimes was a season changer. He helped to stem the flow of goals against us. That's why we paid a few million for a player nearly 30. Worth every penny. The squad was underperforming up until January let's be honest
