Nicky Platnauer scoring with his face in the 4v0 victory against Liverpool back in the early eighties. Terry Gibson scored the other three.
Ayari scoring his only goal for City with his Johnson.
I think this thread is specifically about our years of plummeting to the depths of the FL.

Hoping someone can help, my memory is telling me we played Crewe at home, we absolutely battered them for the whole game, they had one attack all game, scored from it and won the game?? But I can’t find it anywhere?? Someone tell me I’m not going mad??
Was it this game at HR? - Coventry City - Crewe Alexandra, Nov 27, 2004 - Championship - Match sheet

We absolutely battered them but somehow managed to lose. We had something like 30 shots with 20 on target.

I think we signed Clayton Ince off the back of it.

The Christmas game at Filbert Street when they got five.

Bobby Gould running onto the pitch.

Asked him once on Twitter. why he'd done it. Said he was furious with the ref.

To compound a miserable day, the police blocked us from going towards the street where our car was parked and we got lost.

Cole was well past it by the time he came here though, he wasn't at the level of eg a Strachan where he was still the best player on the pitch.
For some reason I think Armstrong's career has peaked now too and he'll drift.
Armstrong is one of those player who was too good for the championship but not good enough for the premier League. I agree it looks like his peak has been and gone now.

There were a few contenders in the League 2 year - losing at home to Forrest Green and Newport County were both up (down?) there, but 2-6 at home to Yeovil was “special”.

I have a memory of Dom Hyam apparently wearing a deep sea divers lead boots while trying to keep up with their attacker…
His lack of pace that day stayed with him for the rest of his time with us.

I have 3, Slades first game in charge. Hoofed into the corners for the forst 20 minutes. Not great but at least it was a sort of game plan. Then we collapsed.
I Went away to yeovil a few times but one really stood out. I think it was nil nil and we missed a penalty but the thing that stood out was that both teams each misplaced about 5 or 6 passes straight out for throw ins.
I came away thinking that I could play football that day.
The other was losing to Bury away. I realised that day that we were on course for league 2.

Possibly not in the Wilderness and similar to Joe Cole was the signing of Dennis wise who was hated on the Robbie Savage level - it was a master stroke a leader on the pitch and a mentor to the young players he was brilliant for me !

Max Biamou the only one who turned up that day it was an absolute farce I stayed the whole 90 and was just fuming

On a contrast I remember the feelings around the Southend game where we won 2-0 in the 19/20 season and feeling like it was set in stone that “we’re gonna win the league” only for that to be the title winner 😂😂

The JPT semi?
They had 3 attacks and scored from all 3
2004 - Dean Ashton pen for them
Was at both of these - contributes to my extreme hatred of Crewe.

I’m born in 1988 - so was convinced we were going to Wembley, was gutted after that JPT game. Dislike Carsley for only attacking from the 80th onwards in the away leg.

that other game was a travesty - if I recall Clayton Ince played a blinder

We beat them in the Cup in 2005, just after Ashton had been sold, and it was a dreadful game. Crewe were always crap, the result only ever hinged on how crap we were in return.

Took my grandson to his first Cov match. Lost 6-1 at home to Yeovil.
Delighted he still wanted to follow the City after that!

We lost 2-6 at home in April 2018, id just checked into my hotel in Buenos Aries and heard the score updates .Not a great start to my trip to Argentina and Uruguay although I did go and watch Boca Juniors play that weekend.

5-1 Tranmere defeat at Sixfields too. My lad and I were there for that. Lowest for me.

You are correct. How could I deny us another goal against the mighty Yeovil.

Playing against Bolton’s youth side because their first team was on Strike in 19/20 and being unable to score after smashing them for 90 minutes felt like they only had 1 attack at that point I was ready for another shite season
I went to this game, pretty sure it was first game of the season (could be wrong) we did batter them all game & even had 3 goals disallowed including one in the last minute.

As said before either Bolton away or Tranmere (home?) where we battered them and lost. Think they were both in the season we went up

I was on a Caribbean cruise at the time. Got up and headed to the sports bar to watch it (on the iPad). 2-0 down after 10 minutes with everyone else at the bar taking the piss out of us.
