Warks sign at Aussie to bowl with the kookaburra ball surely the reason to use it is to get our bowlers used to it

Generally unimpressive start from the bowlers especially as we put them into bat
Could see this coming when the entire build up spoke about this series as a warm up to the Ashes.

Not sure Jaiswal is going to be able to keep going, seems to be in a lot of pain.

Seems to be a lot of empty seats today. Not great on for the opening day of a major series.

Plus it's a Friday and beautiful weather, you'd expect it to be packed.

You'd expect a huge Indian contingent like we used to get. but they don't even fill their grounds for home Tests anymore.

not going to happen any time soon but long term the future for test cricket looks pretty grim. Nobody seems interested once you move outside of the 'big 3'.

we've already got young players coming through that are ditching red ball cricket before they've even started. Can only see that getting worse and now we're letting IPL franchises take an ownership stake in the Hundred we can't be far off players being permanently signed for a franchise and the likes of the ECB having to ask for them to be released for international games.

Throughout the youth ranks cricket is very geared to white ball - 20 over or5 0 over.Even League cricket is playing less timed games and more 50 over stuff. Even 2nd Tier ICC international great is predominantly limited overs.

Awful decision - it’s baking hot, so we put them in, making us field in temps of 29 degrees. We have no real pace to blast them out and as the pitch gets flatter India will score over 500 and consign us to the field for 2 days!!! Then we’ll reply with the usual 125-5 no doubt!!!

Bears got in a good positsion there are trying to throw it away. They have just lost 3 wicket for 4 runs. They only need 49 of 51 balls but they are panicikng
We seem to say the same thing every season but there just seems something fundamentally wrong at the club.

Same thing every season. An unbalanced side, players coming in on short term contracts / loans. Never able to capitalise on promising positions.

It’s now got the point where they’re a noticeable drop in crowds. Something needs to happen and can’t help feeling there’s some people at the top, on the non playing side, that need to go.

Ooof, been an entertaining last half hour. Pope 100, Root out next ball and now Brook caught off a no ball.

Thoroughly entertaining day.

Sad to see "Syd" Lawrence has died at only 61. But for injury would have had a lot more international cricket
Poor chap had that horrible injury to deal with and then this horrible illness. Always came across as nice guy.

Just opened the app to berate our bowling and say that if something doesn't change soon, then the ashes are gonna be a right laugh. As I did, the wicket of Pant falls.
Seriously though, have either Pant or Rahul scored an easier test century? It's a good job we can bat right down the order because we can't bowl for shit. 2/3 of our only decent seam bowlers can't stay fit and Woakes can't do it all alone.

Don't have any bowlers that can do something when the wicket is dead - maybe Wood.

Wood, Atkinson and Woakes are the 3 I was on about. And 2/3 of them can't stay fit long enough to be of any use to anyone. Archer can't stay fit, but even when fit he doesn't offer anything aside from pace. Hes quick, but shite.

Bat well and this game is still winnable - gone are the days when that would just seem ludicrous.
Bat silly tonight and throw a couple of wickets and it could be a grind to survive tomorrow

Some generally sensible (but still comparatively positive) batting is creating a really solid platform to properly attack this 4th innings target

Given themselves a real chance here. Seen off the new ball without losing any wickets and a decent RR. As long as Jadeja doesn't start finding extra turn a win has to be possible (if no weather)
