One of my favourite away games, not sure how many City were there, but it wasn't a lot due to the rebuilding.
Always liked the trip to Highbury too 👍

The Clock End was closed so City fans were put in the stand next to it, but there were probably only about a 1,000 of them. I was in a group of 8 London based City fans that got tickets in the Arsenal seats close to the City fans. We kept fairly quiet until the 2nd goal but all stood and cheered when we got that. Luckily their fans were more concerned about their own teams performance and sportingly tolerated our celebrations.

Despite being in the seated area for our fans, there was a bit of a surge behind me when the 3rd went in. I punched the air in celebration, but a shove in the back meant I accidentally gave one of our fans an uppercut to the jaw! Luckily for me he had a sense of humour...

I went on my bike and the stewards wouldn't let me take my helmet in so they took it off me and told me I could get it at the end of the game. When the game finished I told a steward what had happened but he didn't know where the other steward had put it, he finally found it in one of the turnstiles after 20 minutes searching.
Arsenal had won both cups the previous season and they were planning a pitch walk after the game, not sure how many fans were left at the end and if they bothered with it.
My memory seems to think that Arsenal missed a penalty in the 2nd half 🤔

After that match Micky Quinn had scored 20 goals in his first 27 league matches. Astonishing.

Even more so if you consider he scored 5 more in his last 37.

Went to a Mickey Quinn evening a few months ago - obviously one of his main topics and a finest moment - very funny talk - had a chat to him about Frank - he was very positive 😉

A guy who sits behind us went to an evening with Mickey Quinn the night before the game he was the special guest at half-time & said he was brilliant

A year or 2 later when we won 3-1 at Spurs I refused to give them my helmet because of what happened at Highbury, apparently the steward thought it was a weapon and I might throw it on the pitch to which I replied "How am I going to get home?"

My eldest was born on this very day. I emerged from the hospital in a rather dazed state, which wasn't helped when I tuned in to the full-time scores. Considered giving my daughter at least eleven extra middle names, but my better half soon helped me come to my senses!

TBH I read the first line and thought "this is one of peteccfc's stories isn't it"?

i remember that game so well.
we went to a pub after the game, and one arsenal fan said one of the funniest things i've ever heard. he was ranting about sumo, and said "all he does is lay the ball off, and score". er, i think you've just described the perfect CF.

happy days.

Good god, man, the chap seized your helmet not your peddles or Sturmey Archer group set.
I thought we Sky Blues were made of sterner stuff? - Exiled or otherwise.
