Well that was a huge let down.
It's not even that we played badly - we controlled most of the game.
1st goal looked offside, but sky didn't really make much of that.
2nd goal was just a terrible pass from the otherwise excellent MVE.
Sunderland scored with their only 2 shots on target iirc.
Feel hard done by.

Possession isn’t enough in this game, we needed to carve out more. Sunderland executed a good game plan and took advantage of our mistakes.

It’s far from over but given our away form, we need a huge performance to turn this around… but you know what? We’ve arguably got the most experienced and best head coach to deal with high pressure situations, so fuckingbelieve

Awful ball and played them onside , probably a poor passage of play rather than a mistake
But he was offside, they not long showed a replay on the TV, I'm glad I got called back to Hungary for work I'd have been fuming had I been in that stadium tonight, just took slow can't beat teams that sit deep.

End of the day whoever gets through are going to get mauled by Sheffield anyway.

Fucking bottle jobs. All that support from us fans, all that noise for the whole 90 mins and that was what we got.

Asante and Wright did fucking nothing all night, Ephron may have not even come on.

Bobby and Kitch did well.

Wright may aswell not have turned up.

Sheaf and Grimes make the game a fucking slugs pace.

We are becoming a 1 man team. Will Rudoni win us the game, week in week out lately.

It aint good enough.

A 1-0 deficit isn't the end of the world, we can certainly feel a lot better than Bristol City will, and whilst we go to the SoL for a one match shoot-out still in the tie, there are some serious lessons we need to take from this game.

Sunderland tactically did us tonight. They were happy to let us have the ball and attack, knowing we would do very little when we did. They picked their moments and looked pretty dangerous when they did.

Aside from the MvE fuck up, Sheaf causied us massive problems. He keept jaunting forward thinking he can help up front, and in doing so left a massive gap for the Sunderland attacking players. It would be alright if he could offer something in the forward areas, but he can't, and he weighs down our attacking threat significantly. It means we just slop around slowly with very little execution. They're a big threat on the counter attack, and we got sucker-punched by not being smart enough when we needed to be.

BTA is not a target man and it wasn't working with him playing up front on his own. Wright was probably just a bit off today, but was extremely poor. Really we should expect more offensive success, but it was a bit limp and that also cost us.

You have to give credit for the quick reaction, which is exactly what we needed at the time. Grimes was immense and basically did the midfield on his own. The rest of the defence were pretty good (for the most part) I thought too, and Saka put in a shift.

All to play for next week, and we can do it. I think we need to shift our tactics a bit though. Some personnel changes too. EMC and Allen need to come in for BTA and Sheaf respectively. We cannot set up the same way and expect a different outcome.

We have to go there and win. Spare no horses now. Sleep well SBA.
Agree with this. The only difference is I would drop Wright for EMC. He was second to everything. Maybe he will have his one decent performance in five but apart from his hattrick game, he has been awful since his injury comeback.

I thought Sky said the replay showed he was definitely ONSIDE. Kitching played him on.

For the Sunderlwnd lurkers:
"Waaaa cheaters fucking jerks and I'm gw'nna hurt myself bc they r wank"

For the rest of us:
"Pretty sour, mood killer for my weekend. Gonna go back to listening my death metal and enjoying my liquor. See you all next game, best wishes to you and yours for an otherwise hopeful fun weekend with your spouse and children."

Said all along, Sheff U will be laughing all the way to the bank again. Sunderland are pretty poor. We have too many weak links and one striker who shows up every 4 games or so. The others are fucking useless.
Why the long ball though, why ?

Same old story against that tactic, the “low block”. We have all the ball and do nothing, only scored as they were asleep after scoring. Again concede from counter and ANOTHER mistake.
Individually, Sheaf and Wright were the worst two on the pitch.
The Sunderland hoodoo was always good to end, however the only hope is that we have another chance and they are not very good.

Death Metal and liquor sounds like a plan I can get behind!

Poor all over the pitch tonight. Got what we deserved. There was quite obvious panic and nervousness with some strange lashings at the ball and making really poor decisions which we haven’t been doing at home recently. Haji was absolutely non existent which doesn’t help. Rudi struggled to get himself into the game. Big ask on Tuesday.
