Wasnt particually impressed with Fleck. His passing wasnt up to scratch, but he wasnt awful. Clarke's finishing could have been better and the inclusion of Elliott was a bit late but i think overall we played really well. Murphy has a quiet afternoon and i think could have done a little better with the second goal, maybe trying to dive for it, but both goals took huge deflections so you cant nreally portion blame on the keeper. Overall, we dominated the attacking play. Preston must have had about 4 shots overall and me had loads. We should have scored about 6 gtiven the chnaces we had, but we won in spectacular style and we're still on the road to wembley and i cant see us running out of petrol just yet
His passing was good tbf, he did a cross which should've been better, he had a great moment of skill on the edge of the ball but couldn't do anything with it, he had an ok game - 6.
Clarke played well, coped with their physicality, took his goal well (so he should!) had a number of nearly moments, Clarke's and Sheff's cross, but should've finished that chance in the 1st half.
Murphy had a quiet afternoon? He didn't have to make a save, the 2nd goal was an unlucky deflection and he had made the decision to dive the other way (you can tell, because he got caught wrong footed). Always got something bad to say about Murphy.
We didn't dominate, we created better chances, we had 1-2 good chances we should've scored, whilst they didn't really create anything, apart from corners, which they had 7, we had 0.
I'm a goalkeeper and if i saw a ball going past me i'd at least dive for it. He got wrong footed, i get tyhat, but he still could have had a go. He's not a bad keeper and both goals were very unlucky, but i think Murphy should have had a go. I didnt rate Fleck last night, but at leats he tried his best. He just needs to take his time rather than rush his passes. Clarke smovement was great and his positioning was top notch, but his finishing could have done better. He's at a new club with new surroundings so you can forgive him for that

I look at the good and the bad. I look at if the player did anything to help the result or make it go against us.

Thats exactly what i'm saying. I dont dislike Murphy, he's a good keeper, but i just want him to try a bit more. He might just have to go that 2nd goal last night if he dived.
If he takes Bakers philosiphy of never giving up then there wouldnt be a keeper in League One better than him

Absolutely no chance of getting to it. Would have been a great save if it was shot from there at that pace. BTW I am also a keeper. I went straight into every first team I had a trial with. I was playing before you were born

What can i say? I'm a dunn fan and im a fan of the fringe players being given chances. The first goal wasnt Murphy's fault. It hit Adams in the face and took it away from him. I think the man on the line should have done a lot better. Murphy probally thought the man on the lin would get it. 2nd goal, still hard but could have tried. If that was me i would still dive in the hope of better a finger to it. Sometimes you just gotta take that leap of faith and i was a bit disapointed that murphy didnt try to get it. I can understand why he didnt but cant say i wasnt disapointed
Totally agree. Sometimes he causes more problems. He's more of a reflex goalkeeper. A bit like me. He just wants to stop the ball going into the net and to hell with the consequences. Cracking keeper but sometimes needs to use his loaf

You're barking up the wrong tree then, I played in goal when I played football, I got blamed for screamers that went in the top corner in full sized goals. The way you go on you remind me of those people (not that I have bad memories, when I made good saves, quite a lot tbf, it was the opposite reaction). He had committed to going to one side and when he realised it went past him, he fell back n his ankle, he had no chance. He's a L1 standard keeper and you forget that, he isn't no Westwood.
My young son was with me last night and he used the same analogy.....you're probably a tad older(sorry I know how sensitive the teen set can be?) and although obviously in the grand scheme of things the Man City moment is more global.. for us as Sky Blues also it has to be quite a moment to savour. I am a fan of CCFC. I want our best or most suited players to our opponents that we have available. Not bothered if they are short, fat, skinny, ugly or anything else.
No keeper in the world could have got that second deflection. You need to be planted with your left foot to get across the goal to your left as quickly as was needed. The ball was going towards the opposite corner. If he hadn't seen the original shot he would have had a chance as his left foot would have been planted. You say you are a keeper. You should know this.
Also you keep saying you would have tried your best to dive for the ball. A keeper does not think what he is going to do. He just does it. It is all to do with reflexes and ability. This applies to all players. The ones that don't have to think are the best players.

How the feck can you have this opinion? Clarke is quite blatantly a talented footballer with good technique.
If you look at Jordan Clarke and don't think he's a very promising defender with excellent technique then you really need to rethink the sport you follow. Maybe football isn't for you.
Of course this is all academic as your opinion on his performance counts for nothing considering you weren't at the game so couldn't have actually watched him all game.
Don't worry, this user formed his opinion on Clarke after his first 5 games for Coventry when he was a 17/18 year old. Nothing will likely change it

I thought that too! Even thought they felt the time wasting would come back and haunt them they didnt sound too disgruntled by it! More pissed off that Simonsen didnt come up for the corner!

I don't see the point in GKs coming up for corners...
You have to stick a defender back to cover him! :facepalm: so why not just have that extra defender?
I suppose it's down to size/physical presence.
You'd rather have someone at 6ft+ in the box than a 5ft full back/winger.
However I don't get why the corner taker seems to aim for the GK 9 times out of 10 if they do come up. Maybe it's just a coincidence.
