Simms has everything going for him and works hard but hes still learning. He is relatively young and I think, like Gyok, he will suddenly peak. One more season left for me to progress or we flog him.
Even in the prem? If we get promoted do you still give him one season? Do you keep him in as a squad player or do you get rid?

People can say what they like about him and have their opinion of him. But he is the only player we have who has scored in The Premier League.

We are still a long way off anyone having the opportunity to better that.

I did stick up for him especially earlier in the season when everyone was shite and he seemed to get unfairly singled out. Hard to say anything other than he's been poor stats wise but I can see that rightly or wrongly defenders are scared of him. It is massively frustrating as he's played so well in certain games.

Total conjecture but what I think from every bit of press or interview is that he comes across really shy and a bit awkward, I honestly think most of his issues are in his head. He should be doing better and has a lot of the raw attributes that you'd want. He seems really affected by bad form and having audible moans when he gets a touch can't help. As someone else mentioned I wish we'd go the other way and really try going OTT with songs and stuff see if that gets him out his shell. We have a lot of money tied up in him it's got to be worth a go.

God knows if any of the players read this nonsense on here but I don't really see the point in ragging on players especially now especially when there are no other options.

I want to like Simms, but he can be so frustrating. That said, I agree entirely with you here - he's ours, he's honest, and with a bit more confidence he can do a proper job for us. We should get behind him.

I think we need to find another striker next season. Simms has all the tools, but can’t seem to put it together consistently. He should get 20 a season on his attributes really but most games doesn’t look like scoring, so frustrating. I hope I’m wrong like I have been on a lot of players!

Simms is a better number 9 than wright IMO. He’s had a bad season and been in an out of the side but most seasons he’ll score you 10-15 and do a job as a target man. I think we can upgrade but I wouldn’t be desperate to move him on. Maybe bring in another option instead of BTA

Very hard to replace Simms with another striker capable of scoring 10-15 goals in his first season. He does a decent job without being a great goalscorer. Seems to play a lot of the game with his back to goal which isn't helpful when trying to scoring goals.

until Recently, we’ve never really had prolific goal scorers, even Regis didn’t score many but his work rate was outstanding, it’s not always about the goals, but simms problem is when he’s not scoring it looks like he doesn’t offer much either, personally I’d still keep him, good to have off the bench, frustrating that for the size of him he should be battering defenders,

Go through this and other than names like Wilson, McNulty, Gyokeres, most of our top scorers have scored about what Simms does. We’ve been spoiled with Godden Vil and Wright to think every striker is a 20-a-season player.

Great point, if he could just give us a bit more he’d be ok for us, he shows signs, thought He looked a bit quicker Friday,

He frustrates me, you can see a very good player in him, but when he has to control a ball coming to him in the air it seems to bounce off him, you need your number 9 to hold the ball up and lay it off. And is it just me, but he looks like he has massive feet. :D

Weirdly you could argue his best performances came against premier league opposition
He was brilliant against Wolves and Man United. Better than I've seen him against any Championship opponent (Rotherham don't count.) It's so weird.

I can understand the frustrations with Simms because when he’s confident and firing he’s an absolute beast and we maybe don’t see that enough, however, that lone striker role can be a thankless task*. The last few games he’s played his part and with a bit of luck could’ve got a couple without receiving much service. His link play has improved a lot and he now uses his body better. I’ve seen enough of him to know he’s as good as we’ve got in that role and if he can retain his confidence and a bit of aggression he can still be a really good player for us

*I still think others need to get a bit closer to him when balls played up so they can pick up the pieces

Poor Ellis has had a mare of a season. At the moment with him at no 9 we're not getting the best out of Haj wide on the left with a back 4 behing him (instead of 5 least season) You can see Lampard's working on it and Haji is a very intelligent player you can see that in this rapport with Rudi but Simmo doesn't look like scoring in a month of Sundays. With one goal in six and few assists Simmo has to do better, but he'll know that. Let's hope he can get a goal or two in the remaining games if he continues up the middle. A change of scenery might do him good next season.

It’s been said before - Simms attracts attention from the defenders which creates room for Haji and Jack - while he may not be in the goals his role is pretty critical imo

He's very hit and miss and often more miss than hit which is frustrating given the money we spent on him.

The main frustration is that we've seen a player in there so when he's not presenting that it annoys people.

I do think we play better with him in the team though.

Simms while not scoring goals still gives defenders problems like rudonis goal he occupied the centre halfs and it left a gap for rudoni sakamoto had a similar chance but the ball was played behind him. Simms will still score goals he's got another big goal or two left in him this season keep the faith pusb

Pretty sure Simms was dragged down by one of the WBA defenders in the second half and should have earned a penalty.

Josh Sargent might make a very interesting partner for Haji when we go up. Just a thought but those two are the stand out strikers in the Championship.

We’ve scored 61 goals in the league this season, with 6 of them coming from Simms. OK fine, maybe he should have scored 20 by now, that puts us on 75 - for context that’s more than any team bar Leeds in the entire EFL (Birmingham are on 73!)

I’ve been disappointed in Simms for large parts of the season, but I think it’s fair to say that this team is not wanting for goals, and as the striker who’s played more minutes up front than any other player, he’s clearly played his part in that. To demand that he becomes a 20-goal striker is to essentially insist that we should be winning the league at a canter.

Not really is it , Norwich have scored more goals than us but sit mid table .

We would almost definitely be on more points in the league if simms had taken a few more of his chances

Likewise we'd probably be on more points should we have conceded less shitty goals

Ellis simms CF. 40 games 6 goals
Bobby Thomas CH. 37 games 5 goals

The stats say it all.

If Simms had scored 20 goals this season AND the rest of the side was scoring at the same rate then I think we would probably be up there challenging for the autos. I just don’t know if you realistically could have both - if so then maybe this was a top 3 deck after all; if not then it seems harsh to criticise the striker in a team that scores goals extremely frequently.
