I do know that when Lampard came in with his team, they were not impressed by the fitness levels of the players.

This is one of the things I’m clinging to regarding Lampard. That first game v Cardiff he had us pressing really high up the pitch, first time during the season I thought we looked really good. After about 20 minutes everyone was fucked. If that’s the way he ultimately wants to play then it’s pointless doing it until fitness levels are considerably higher.

I don’t think our endurance is too bad, it’s the intensity stuff that’s sorely lacking.

So when Doug said that because of Dr Roberts our squad was the fittest it's ever been, I assume he must have meant some kind of man crush on Haji or Wilson as our pin up boys. Or perhaps the boyish good looks of Norman or Sheafo.

It really depends on the interpretation of fitness. e.g. You could be extremely "fit" to run 100m fast, but very "unfit" if covering 12km box to box as a midfield player with 15% of that distance undertaken at top speed.
Hence, the generic use of "fitness" is not helpful ....as level is specific to the type of activity.

How about narrowing down the type of activity to playing football?
