i just remembered, we went to the brighton away game as well earlier in the cup run. 1st or 2nd round??
we happened to be on holiday somewhere down south, maybe weymouth or something, and decided to go to the game. must have been back when you could just rock up and get in. i do remember being in the home end, and my dad repeatedly telling me to shut up. hahaha
must have been the first away game i went to that wasn't in the midlands.

I went to the Cambridge home game 1-1 we won the replay 1-0 and i saw us win for the first time after about 12 attempts against Watford 5-0. Was on the Crows nest as I recall stood on a stool. A happy 9 year old that night!

Always preferred Cosby. Nice village centre with a stream- reminiscent of Stretton and Wolston in a way.
Used to ride through twice a day on my commute between Sharnford and GEC-ESL at Whetstone.

Started off there in the late 80s when I came to Cov - very close to the away fans - they put a net up in the end as the coins and stuff rained both ways - saw the law extracting a guy over the fence once - if there was a rumble the crowd would move very fast - ha ha happy days

Not sure when the Crows Nest was deemed unsafe and fenced off.
I used to prop up the left hand post of the scoreboard in my 20s.
There was a very tall slim guy that had kyphosis up there too, he used to march in the Salvation Army band.

Got a cracking cafe/tearoom there, the cook on the nook, do a full brekky £12.50 Kids meals really good too. We go quite often with the grandkids, after school as a treat.

Could have been a game against Sheffield United, early 70s which was abandoned in the second half with us losing 2-0. We won the replayed game 3-2 I think.

Never thought of it as a death trap as I said previously stood there for many years the only time any doubt was Friday 13th 1964 ( had to check the year remembered the date) lost 5-2 to Southend dire game and someone started a fire under the top end of it.As you might think more interest in the fire than the game.From memory don't remember any mass exodus of the wooden part.

The Spion Kop used to be a neat uniformed terrace until they converted the lower section to seating and created a walkway across the middle, then it became a dog’s dinner.

At a guess, would it have been after the Bradford fire that it was deemed unsafe? Wasn't that when wooden structures in grounds were clamped down on?

Spent my first visits to Highfied road aged 6 exploring the old spion Kop and the breathtakingly mental crows nest in 1976/77.
Uncle took me and my brother a few times whilst our old man had a season ticket in the Skyblue Stand, the following season dad got us season tickets with him in the Skyblue stand next to the Kop, wonderful memories.
But tbh my most vivid memory of the kop was Forest clinching the league title with a 0 v 0 draw 1977/78
their fans were given the entire Kop and packed it to bursting point.
The whole ground was full & the atmosphere great, never forget Clough in his yellow jersey & his team doing a lap of honour & my old man joining in a standing ovation which I thought weird as he usually hated the opposition

I don't think your memory of the Forest game is as vivid as you think
Forest weren't given the whole kop, they just turned up in huge numbers and took it over.
There was also no lap of honour either. While the crowd were waiting for Forest to come out to celebrate, some Forest fans started running on the pitch taunting the City fans which resulted in much of the West End coming ono the pitch to confront them, and then more Forest fans also came on from the kop end to face up to them. The Police managed to get between them, and there was then a stand off for about 10 minutes before they were dispersed from the pitch and out the ground.
Of course it could be that my memory is the problem, as to be fair I guess its possible that Clough and his team could have come back out after that to celebrate, but by then it would been to half empty stadium.
