That’s not really what it’s for though.

Surely it is a better long term spend and strategy though? Than say Bolton, doing their utmost to chase the Premier dream and almost going out of existence by just spunking money on players - not once but twice!

The thing I hated about Bolton in those days was when the penny started to drop with their chairman Phil Gartside. Contemplating how bad it would be to get relegated from the Prem with their bloated wage bill, he was one of the loudest supporters of the idea of a PL1 & 2 sealed off permanently from the rump of the league with no promotion from or relegation to the third tier.

Conveniently forgetting that Bolton had themselves risen rapidly to the Prem from the third tier in only a couple of years in the 90s. I think this kind of mad spending and subsequent hangover hallucinations helped bring about parachute payments.

Saw Callum Doyle this morning at the Belfry as I left the gym. He was clearly just there to play golf with his mates and out of our budget anyway but would have him back on loan again.

He was our best and most versatile CB last year

Doyle and McNally along side Fadz were incredible in the playoff season. It's no surprise we conceded far more goals this season with a complete upheaval at central defence

Where as Fadz was the glue with Doyle and McNally, he was a big part of the problem in the new defence this season.

when we were shipping goals left, right and centre towards the end of the season we could have done with Fadz

But we had our best spell without him. With Fadz you would have had to play three CB which would have compromised us in other areas.

Even Blackburn fans don't see him as an option going forward into next season. Just a sign of how broke they are if they renew his contract.

Start keeping your eyes and ears open on Duncan McGuire. The striker with Orlando City in MLS is receiving interest from multiple EFL Championship clubs according to reports from Tom Bogert (The Athletic). It would not surprise me one bit if Coventry is one of those clubs. He checks all the boxes for the type of player profile that Robins always targets.

McGuire had a transfer lined up to Blackburn in the January window, but Blackburn fumbled the paperwork at the last minute. At the time, reports also had interest from Ipswich, Plymouth, and Wednesday.

I said it back in January, but McGuire makes a lot of sense for Coventry as Matty Godden's replacement. Similar profile to Godden's peak as an efficient poacher with clever runs in the box. However, he is also a pretty stout/strong individual that should have no problem fitting into the rough and tumble nature of this league.

My biggest concern is the overperformance of his xG. But, in actually watching him play, you can tell that he sets his body up well and often strikes the ball cleanly.

Some good shouts here, would like Wilson but unsure on his fitness

Anyone who thinks we have any chance of signing Wilson needs to think again! I would imagine a number of Prem clubs would want to sign him and from what I can gather, he is currently on approx 60k per week 😂! Come on, let’s move on and discuss real targets.

Anyone got any idea of what salary Alex Mowatt from WBA might be on? Available on a free if we could afford his wages

Mowatt would be a massive signing IMO. Him next to Sheaf would have us playing some beautiful football next season.

Apparently the contract West Brom have offered includes a hefty pay cut as they've got no parachute payments.

…. And getting bigger …
Not sure it's getting bigger per se , maybe at the very top with clubs like man city breaking financial rules ..

But its the first season 3 teams have been relegated since 97-98 ..

All 3 teams survived 2 years ago and in 17/18

I wouldn't say its bigger when club like Bournemouth and brentford can continually survive

He would be an unreal catch
Wonder what wage he would want v Browne - as would be one or other?

Agee either of above are exactly what we need in middle (The younger Kelly mould)

Still need similar at Centre Half - someone happy to dip in and out, play circa 20 games maybe and takes no shit (Basically Fadz 4/5 years younger!)
