I was having a discussion with a friend the other day, about signing ex players, mcsheff, baker, doyle etcc, and we then came to hamer, if, hypothetically, Sheffield utd went down, and we got promoted, and there was a chance to resign him, would you? or would leave it in the past?

It would depend on how he left behind the scenes.

It's ok to sign him back if he didn't fuck the club around and everything was transparent.

It not if he was duplicitous or strung the club along etc. That sends a poor message to other players at the club.

It depends. By then he would have had a full season in the the Premier League, and it would be easier to judge him at that level. There have been plenty of players who have excelled in the Championship and not made the step up for whatever reason.

Won't surprise anyone here but I disagree with most comments.

It would depend, yes, but not on him. It should be more about us and what WE need. We've changed our system of play and if MR persists with this new keep ball style or even evolves it further, there is a high degree of certainty that Hamer would be less effective in that role . And in that situation no, I wouldn't waste the money. He's gone to Sheff Utd and he's not lighting up games as they don't play the same as we did. Before everyone gives me the shit emoji, he was excellent at sparking attacks for God or Vik to run onto in space and he was able to take advantage of spaces on the counter. That is not in the Blades longball and our new short passing games. And personally, they are not Hamer's strong point any more. He was great in finding the long passes but less so in the short game that we're playing now.

After he left, Robins biggest praise of him was the type of person he was off the pitch and when he came back to watch us, he and MR were hugging and laughing together etc.

I’m sure he would’ve been pushing for a move to the prem but I don’t think anyone here ever questioned his effort whilst he was here. He never downed tools or went on strike. In fact he was giving 11 in a cup game against AFC Wimbledon a couple of days before his move.

The fact remains, we have 8 first team midfielders (when fit) competing for 3 places. If you haven't got the answer within those 8 players, there must be something wrong. Pissing money up the wall on another ain't the best way to run a business, and King is a business man first, not a football man.

If the plan is to play, Sheaf, O'hare and Ayari (when available etc) as the three, then why spunk £10m+ up the wall.

Because ideally you would own and develop a player like Ayari rather than try to replace him each season after his loan.

Where to start ? Okay, I do agree with half of that.

We knew a contract was on the table. Facts don't lie. But that's where fans ideas are diverging from reality. Speculate to accumulate doesn't work with football and team management. What would have happened if teams didn't come in for him with an acceptable offer? Or he decides that the offers weren't good enough for him. Or he just changed his mind and signed his contract. We're £15m down on what we thought we had.

Now imagine if we'd bought a replacement anticipating his going and spent a lot of that money that we suddenly haven't got and have a player we no longer need. Imagine the shit this forum would spout as we sell players to try and break even on the deal to avoid FFP or interest on debts that we weren't expecting.

I think it's obvious that Robins wasn't expecting Hamer to vanish in 48 hours. So what did MR do to catch up ? We have no idea how much effort was put finding a replacement but as soon as Hamer walked out the door, selling clubs saw the £££ over the CBS and bumped their prices up or just plain refused us. So to get a body in that fits our new style within our price range and in such a short time.... noone at the club performs miracles. Though MR does go close


Sorry Fatso, not pointing this at you, but I get very frustrated that fans are still going on as if the club made zero attempts to get someone in once Hamer left. Vik left and MR and the recruitment team got Simms and Wright in pretty damn quickly so they are more than capable of the job they're employed in. I'm almost certain (not an ITK though) that the club are just as frustrated as fans that we have noone in for Hamer. But we were left asking about overvalued players (Kitching and Swift allegedly) or players that just weren't good enough for us (Styles). Not all our approaches would have been broadcast to fans and half the approaches on social media were made up by fans or reporters.
