Hiding is a good way of putting it tbh

Reminds me of Shipley when he realised he was out of his depth at this level. Ran around a bit, made the odd run to somewhere knowing he cant get the ball and was genuinely anonymous

There were a few games that first season up I genuinely didn't know he was playing

Come on guys, Simms will turn out to be a good player just have faith.
He was with both Man City & Everton, you don’t play for those two clubs if you are shit.
Loads of good, hopeful clubs in the championship were all wanting him so everyone would have done their research on his ability.
Let’s all have some faith and get behind him

The question of confidence keeps popping up - I would imagine that the staff are doing all they can to get/keep his confidence up, as a striker with an unfathomably hanging head is a waste of a space on the team sheet.

Either he wants to succeed, and be an integral part of the team, or he doesn’t. And if we’re about 10-15 games in and he still isn’t ‘up to speed’ then the issue is a question of commitment. 🤷‍♂️

This applies to any player, really, not just Simms.

Wrights was easier, Godden had absolutely no time and it pretty much just bounced off him
Godden had an open goal… I’m sure even Godden would have the accountability to admit he should’ve buried that 9 times out of 10.

Wright’s chance wasn’t an ‘easy’, he should’ve scored and lacked that finesse.

not saying he shouldnt have scored, but it was nothing like an open goal and got pinged at him, watch it again. Wright had the same chance with the added benefit of time and touches...

irrelevant anyway on a thread about Simms (who didnt miss either!)

So you’re saying he’s out of his depth and he knows it?

It was a good chance but the goalkeeper deserves credit for his positioning

I'm saying he's hiding, whether that's low on confidence or what

Im not sure he is (if he is after only three games I’d be worried - especially after scoring a few in pre season). I think it’s more him and the team aren’t on the right wavelength yet and the opposition have been set up pretty well defensively against us

All these Vik comparisons - he got something like 3 goals in his 1st 20 odd games on loan here. We still signed him and that turned out pretty well.
Price tag seems to muddy the waters. Simms has less than 25 championship games under his belt and it's a new club.
Like any striker might just need that 1st goal to get him going

we either get to the bylines to cross it in or the midfield threads a ball through! i have seen very little in the games i have seen this season? thats what needs sorting to get both our forwards off the mark!

They both strike me as players who would enjoy a more direct style of play. Wright and Simms would surely benefit from crosses into the box. Best get Sakamoto in somewhere!

Simms played well in the first half but there were occasions in the second half his control and shooting were awful. He was taken off at the right time.

There’s definitely a player there, let’s hope he’s another who doesn’t become devoid of confidence.
Looked pretty good for me, touch deserted him 2nd half with continually having a heavy touch but looked decent, hope he gets a proper run in the team over Wright, that missed sitter last night was incredible after watching it back on TV, live , it looked a bit of a difficult chance.
