Does an exciting and unexpected win against higher league opponents make Richard Shaw a good manageriel prospect anymore than a 1-0 defeat yesterday puts him out of the running, should the width of a cross bar influence a decision, the bar was hit in both games which in either game possibly influenced the result, IMO no. Now i'm not saying we should select Shaw but i am saying he has a CV worth looking at when you study the whole picture.
He is here already so will have an opinion on all the players which may differ from now once in full charge. Was part of the Millwall management team when they got promoted from this division so has experience in this division. Was a player here for years at the highest level, so has an affinity with the club.
The negatives: Not been a manager before being the obvious other than a month as temp. at Millwall. Of the list of 40 or so we the fans make our "who should we have from that lot" judgement on their manageriel record. Not a "name" like a Wise, McCarthy or Davies. Don't know how he would fair in the other important roles as a manager, buying players, man-management, handling situations when we go on a poor run of results, tactics etc, etc.
We have had the experienced Premiership names Peter Reid and Chris Coleman, we have had the young up and coming name Iain Dowie, we have had the ex-City boy AND fans choice with a decent record in the lower leagues Mickey Adams and we have had one who had taken "little" club, Watford, from nowhere to the Prem and to a semi-final in Ady Boothroyd, none did a lot of good here. We haven't had a totally new manager yet to stamp his mark.
Now i'm not advocating Richard Shaw is the man but he has a CV worth looking at and not just being dismissed on a 1-0 defeat at Crewe.
My bigger concern is the two articles likely to be selecting the next boss Tim Fisher and that Steve Waggott. What credentials do they have to pick a manager ?
