Should have looked at his contract at the end of the season, no other club at this level would have him so we could afford to wait with him.

Nothing against him, but he strikes me as the kind of player you’d ideally be looking to move on from (a la Shipley) because the team’s outgrown him by 2024.

We extended Bakayoko, Robins never said anything about Biamou and if Moore is injured we’d sign another keeper.

Godden it’s absurd to tie him here until 34. McFadzean we offered a deal at the end of the season. Not sure the point on Wilson as I hardly think Allen is going anywhere for £3 million

Are we not even considering promotion then? Perhaps as Dundee United clearly think biamou is rubbish - which he is - we should bring him back again.

No we activated a clause in the original contract. I can't be bothered to go searching for the article in case it doesn't exist the Rest of the argument stands.

Yes if Moore was injured we likely would sign someone for the bench like we did Lee camp last year 👍

Your comment on David bell suggested all contract extensions were bad and yet they aren't. Not all extensions have to be with a sale in mind.

Skybluebeliever has stated why the extension has been given.

Edit: just to add I'm amazed it's a two year contract by the way, would have expected 1 + 1 but I think Robins has earnt enough trust when it comes to managing the team. He's never shown anything but a ruthless streak when it comes to moving players on.

You're both correct tbf, It was a clause in his contract but the club didn't need to activate it, they chose too.

I suspect it's more to keep the peace with other members of the squad also getting extensions.

Well I mean we're still lumbered with a lot of deadwood to whom we awarded 3 year contracts and is being cited as one of the reasons we probably won't add anyone even on loan.

I agree with you. But weren't most of those initial signings? Rather than extensions. With the exception of Shipley of course who I think everyone hoped would kick on but really hasn't.

They were, but we chose to award them 3 year deals rather than 2+1. Had we done the latter we could have binned them off bar Hilssner who is still stuck with us for another 18 months

Not saying he hasn’t done alright this season, not an exceptional player. Am surprised, expected him to be moved on in the summer.

My thinking would be that the budget isn't going to increase in any significant way come summer (if we stay in the championship.) In which case you are probably only looking at relatively small turnover of staff and I think most people expect at least 2 new CB's, a Lwb and an attacking midfielder as a minimum come summer. Then you are already looking at potentially replacing squad players like Shipley.
I see it as a likely cheap squad player who can step in when required.

Still might be, new contracts don’t mean players stay the duration of a contract.
I quiet like Allen works his nuts off but think he’s more suited in a midfield three than a two.

Not sure what the club were thinking, he was dreadful in league one for most of his time here. Even Biamou on one leg got in the side ahead of him.

Biamou got in ahead of Gyokeres as well last season - bizarre

This is pretty underwhelming and hardly a sign that we’re looking to kick on.
I suppose it would depend on the terms that he has agreed and how much game time they are promising? If he has signed for the same money (or close to that) it just suggests we are protecting the resale value and giving ourselves time to find better players as it takes time to evolve the squad. At a guess I think this will mean Shippley will go and if we sign a starting 11 player in his place that will show the squad is positively evolving.

Little bit underwhelmed by this. Decent lower Championship squad player maybe. I’d have hoped we’d be looking to improve on him in the summer TBH.

I’m really not getting people being underwhelmed. Allen’s done really well this season…and not just in that he’s improved but has been really good.
We’re 7th in the league and he’s played a part in getting us there. Makes sense to me.
It’s not like we’ve just offered a ‘bench warmer’ a new contract. He’s easily good enough for us.

Exactly . The churn and improvement in squad will be. Improving on The Shipleys/Kelly's of this world.

Allen has showed some class this year… I like him and just don’t get the negativity
Been a game changer since he come on as sub at Barnsley. His penalty win should have really got us deserved point minimum there. Hasn't looked back since then.

He deserved a new deal and not just because of his effort. He has improved his game and stepped up to the level we are now at. He is probably the fittest in the squad but is now putting it together with other aspects of his game. He adds to the squad and is a nice player to pin down and to add to.

Be interesting to see who is next, I would imagine Eccles, Jones and Macfazden are in talks. I would offer all new deals with Eccles getting a long term one.

The same people complaining about contract extensions would be up in arms if there was a mass exodus of the squad as contracts ran off and blame Robbins for poor planning.

One thing Robbins has been brilliant at is to continuously evolve and improve the squad - if he thinks Allen is good enough to continue with us on that journey- more than good enough for me vs. some of the “experts“ on here.

Who would you drop for him? Hamer or O’Hare?

He obviously is a bench warmer. He’s had a handful of decent appearances and as many of not more absolutely anonymous games. He’s not the quality we need to be top six, come on. I know there’s a thing against improving the squad in case it makes old players sad on here. But be realistic.
