If we had spent £5m+ on forwards I could understand. We have spent a nominal fee on Gyo, and got Bright and Waghorn on free's, hardly using a significant budget on them are we.

If we bring in a good centre half and LWB then the squad would be improved from last year. If it’s loans then so be it.

Rose, Hyam, O’Hare, Eccles, Burroughs, Bright, Godden, Kelly, Drysdale have all either had Covid or been injured at some point in pre-season. That’s a large chunk of the squad.

Tell you what, if the window closes and we’ve spent as much in likely wages and fees on permanent defenders as we have on Bright, Waghorn and Györkeres I’ll change my avatar to whatever you like for the season. If not you can apologise for the insults.

West Brom just payed £5 million for 1 defender !!! That’s a shit load of money for any championship team to splash out on 1 player.

Actually that trialist Saturday looked okay needs another look at but if he joins will need a bit of time to get up to speed but bringing in Cranie aswell is a good move imo.

They didn't. That was the rumoured asking price so they took him on loan instead. No doubt still stumped up a substantial loan fee though.

It's a hard window where budgets are extra tight. He will have funds allocated for defenders just hasn't found the right man yet or is waiting for the last minute to see if high calibre loans become available
