That's because you couldn't judge him as a manager with a squad that clearly wasn't good enough.

This year will be different and one way or the other he will be shown for his true worth.

As stated near impossible to judge. Did well in his first 10 games playing good football. Poor season with poor squad followed, now we can make a proper judgement.

I would have thought part of being a good manager is getting the best out of the players available and playing to their strengths like somebody like Paul Lambert at Norwich did? I am pretty sure if I opened football manager and added a cheat to get unlimited money I would breeze every league...

Well for me, he did as well as could be expected with last season's squad. I personally think the squad has been gutted of quality, and the players won't be good enough for a top 6 finish: we feel a bit like Preston last season. But I'll still blame Thorn this season, as he's had the chance to bring players in, albeit on a very limited budget and only on frees. He has to be judged on what he gets out of the players at a lower level, and the judgement he's shown in the players he has signed. So far, I'm not in the slight bit impressed with what he's added. I still blame SISU to a very large extent, but now that Thorn is proclaiming it as his team-and he did say "the players I want are all free transfers anyway"- he has to bear the responsibility for how it fares.

On cod surely the best players who can win with a handgun against people with rocket launchers? They have less but get the most out of it!

Even so, nobody can really say footballing wise things he has done that are amazing! Just how he is restricted!

Fine to defend Thorn for what he didn't have to work with and because of all the constraints etc.

Every time he did make a mistake last season that was the excuse that was brought out, that the squad wasn't good enough, the players weren't strong enough, too many kids having to be played etc.

Everyone understood all those constraints. Trouble was, most people expected us to struggle and many said we would go down and we did struggle and did go down. We finished 8 points adrift. Are people saying if we didn't have Thorn we would have finished even more than 8 points adrift? :thinking about::thinking about:

To me, and I have been labeled an AT lover by some for having a mind of my own, he should be given until Xmas to have us in the top 6, but if we have a poor start then his position should be reconsidered.

Did you not want AT before he took over from AB who had us on a long losing streak and only lost 3 of the last 10 games to make us safe, or was it after he lost what he thought was his 1st team and then struggled?

Must confess, I didn't want AB sacked. I wanted him backed.

We were doing really well under him until injuries kicked in and the board wouldn't back him in a transfer window.

We may well have been found out, but that we would have only known had he been backed and our slide continued. It's all now merely conjecture.

No course not, but historically there are thousands of cases of new manager syndrome and results picking up as a result.

New managers more often than not bring a renewed confidence and players try that little bit harder to impress.

It has happened through footballing history.

Lambert inherited a Norwich squad full of Championship quality players in League 1. How he kept more or less the same group (with Leon sodding Barnett in defence), however, only he will know.

But no decent manager with a hard earned reputation would have stood for losing these players - Thorn accepts it because he knows he has a 'special' role.
In fact it is his Raison d'être - why he exists in the role - to provide little by way of a serious objection to shipping out players.
He has no rep as a manager so little risk if he fails - which he has done...
I thought he said he would walk if they sold keogh (or was it bigi) - anyone confirm?

Not sure selling Keogh, Bigi, losing Platt & Cranie and bringing in possibly lesser quality players is backing him.

Only time will tell I guess if these are lesser quality.
