According to his Twitter account, he applied for the Ass. Manager vacancy. Thought it interesting.

Who'd have him back?

He's got his uefa a licence I'd have him back around the club if a position comes up! He's at derby at the moment!

He applied for the managers job before thorn was appointed I believe.

We should get him in as a forwards coach.

@NoelDavidWhelan

He's really good at replying.

I too would have him back. I think his experience of the darker side of football would be of immense value to our young players. I think its only a matter of time before he does come back!

:thinking about:We could have him on the bench.

In fact we could have all the management/coaching team on the bench to save money!;)

They could make up a 5-a-side team too:

Ogrizovic
Shaw - Thorn
Carsley
Whelan

:D

Wonderful player, never quite achieved his full potential, but would love to have him involved.
It will be many a year before we see anyone of his quality again.

In Whelan we Trust

I'd definitely have him back round the club. Talks a lot of sense when I hear him on the radio and obviously has a lot of affection for the club.

The fact that we had a Uefa-qualified coach apply to be assistant manager kinda destroys the myth that nobody would apply for the manager's job, doesn't it?

When someone says "who would take the Cov job" it is not the same as stating "no one in football would apply to be the manager of a League 1 team". Apologies for being sensible, I can see it pissed on your chips.

Would love to have him back, on his day he was brilliant, just a shame he had his problems otherwise he'd of been at a far better club then us.

Think we need something a bit different with the back room staff now, everyone is so nicey nicey. Need someone who is going to tell them how it is and kick them up the arse every now and again.

Nonsense. Plenty have suggested that nobody would take the job because mean ol' SISU are such horrible owners. As in, they've actually stated "NOBODY would want this job".

We mean "nobody worth having", as in "only nut-cases like Whelan and Gould". If anything, this just proves the point...

I see. And why would you consider them "nut-cases" but not AT?

You obviously don't know of their "work"..Thorn doesn't bounce around in a frenzied state spouting antiquated theories whilst acting like the Duracell bunny after too many e's: as for Noel, heh heh, I don't think I really need to say anything about why he's totally Radio Rental! But yes, I do live in Leamington :)

I lived in Leamington and know of Noel's exploits, but people are capable of growth and maturation. I'm sure Andy Thorn was no angel - he was a member of the Crazy Gang, for god's sake.

He was a bit of a "Norty Boy" at times, but I'm sure he's matured now. I'd love him back here!

I would love Whelan to come back to us in some capacity.

As a player he always gave it his all, and scored many an important goal to stave off relegation. He also always put in everything he had, and I still laugh when I remember him knocking Andy Townsend flying in a derby game with Villa, and Townsend losing it afterwards as he wanst used to receiving the type of challenge that he liked to dish out himself.

I met Whelan on several occasions, and he was always a great bloke, a good laugh, and very friendly. I seem to remember that whenever he was injured he attended games, and remember one where he was up in the stands with Huckerby belting out the Sky Blue song.

With the club on its knees, I would welcome someone like Noel who has affection for the club, and who through that motivation wants us to succeed.

Reading that made the hairs on my arms stand on end. They're the glory years in my 20 odd years of being a City fan. Those guys are my heroes.
