Yup. Hands up on this one. Didn’t see this coming. At all. Polls even more inaccurate than 2016. Crazy.

I would rather have Kanye than either of them probably, but I knew the polls were bullshit.

As Evo says, they seem to be a propaganda tool. They should probably just scrap them.

Whatever happens and whatever the result, I think we all agree that Biden was a very poor candidate for the Democrats to elect.

Trump should have been wiped out.

World don’t work like that Otis.

No. It’s not fucking X Factor. It’s running a country. It’s not a job for amateurs. As our government is handily showing.

It's going to lurch one way then the other as the mail-in ballots tend to be skewed towards the Democrats and on the day ballots towards the Republicans. Which is why Trump has been trying quite hard to close off a large number of mail votes from being counted. He knows if everyone who wanted to vote actually got it counted he'd lose easily

That 'victory speech' (which is what it effectively was) was an absolute travesty and a danger not just to US democracy but democracy full stop. To declare victory while millions of votes have yet to be counted is just unbelievable.

To then follow that up by demanding vote counting should be stopped is just utterly mind-blowing. He's actively calling for the election to be rigged in his favour whilst simultaneously claiming his opponents have rigged it. There is no evidence whatsoever for any of this. In an African republic this would be denounced as the mad ramblings of a dictator.

Also for a man (and I use that term very wrongly) who claims to love America and which plays to many of his supporters there seems to be plenty about the place he doesn't seem to like or trust.

But what really depressed me was the likes of Fox and Raab who refused to call Trump out and say he cannot make the claims he has and there is no evidence to support it. I know there has to be some diplimacy in an answer but it's weak AF. Even Farage was more critical of him making those claims (even though he did say postal voting caused lots of fraud when all evidence says it's a minor problem).

It isn’t a U turn, I predicted a best case for Trump of 279 and he isn’t getting more than that.

You actually also said Biden could get 400 it’s like predicting a football match and saying we will win lose or draw

The polls predicted a margin of 6 to 8% nationally its miles out

Nationally speaking Biden is up about 4%, with several Democratic strongholds not yet reporting, so not sure where you’ve got that from.

And for the second time running if he wins he’ll again have lost the popular vote by millions. I don’t think that’s ever happened

Many people said Biden would wipe the floor with Trump. Some of those are on the other thread here on SBT. There was a mass sentiment that Trump didn't have a chance. Anyone who warned it would be closer than those people were making out were shot down.

Now those people are saying that they just thought Biden had more chance of winning and the aggression is gone. It is a complete u-turn. Embarrassing.

No that was applying the same conditions to the same polls for each candidate. I said what I thought the likely outcome would be.

Just switched CNN on and I have to laugh... Every election the same"country divided " speel... but the 4 years Inbetween no lessons learnt... They talk about division but absolutely never talk about their own influences on that division.

It's all rather pathetic

It was a joke. None of them are competent.

Both in the US and UK all the 'leaders' are a fucking shambles.

All the data pointed that way. Even with a 2016 error factored in. Clearly there’s something hugely wrong with US state level polling. Theory from my ass: conspiratorial minded voters are less likely to tell people who they are voting for? 🤷

I’ll happily admit I was massively over confident. In hindsight I shouldn’t have been, until corona I thought Trump would get a second term.

Fair enough. I’m a little highly strung when it comes to this topic. For the record, while Istill think he’d have been better than Johnson, Corbyn also falls into the amateur category. We’ve lost competent politicians on all sides.

I want politics to be boring again.

Talk shit and get laughed at

Like people that say Trump is getting annihilated and Biden will win by a landslide because the polls say so despite the recent history on the accuracy of polling and anyone who says differently must be stupid ;)

I hate the Americanisation of our politics. I used to be proud that the U.K. was sensible and immune to this nonsense. The Brexit referendum changed all that.

I just want to live in a sensible country. I want to debate on solutions to agreed problems not whether the fucking Earth is flat or the lizard people are stealing babies.

I think it’s time to forget about perfect for a bit. Forget about left and right. The battle of our time is brain v gut. I’ll take the hardest of right wing neocons as long as he engages with reality and not the drivel we’ve seen recently.

I'd argue that the right still has competent politicians inasmuch as they can play the politics game of convincing enough of the public of their bullshit, and that's what, IMO, politics is. The ability to deflect attention away for you shitty dealings and failings but make sure focus is aimed on those of the opposition to ensure you get elected.

What we've lost are competent policymakers and governors.

Yep....A good start in this country would be to implement a ban on all personal social media output accounts for anyone in a public office, be that MP, PM or local council rep.
Its especially damaging because twitter is, in its basic premise, a media based medium (if that makes sense) but the vast majority of tweeter twats are, frankly, fucking morons.

The polls in many of these states couldn’t separate them beyond margin of error. The 2016 polls also got it right nationally and it looks like they’ll be right nationally again once all the votes are counted. People seem pretty proud to say they’re voting Trump from where I’m sat.
Maybe it wasn’t fair for you to characterise Biden voters as rioters either but there we go.

Pretty much every political pundit has said they got them spectacularly wrong - Florida was hopelessly out on polling averages and the margin in other swing states was expected to be comfortable and all should be done by now - at the start of the night the democrats thought they’d win very easily

Are all the businesses that boarded up their properties doing so because of Trump supporters? No they are not.

They are writing BLM on the boardings. If they were worried about Trump supporters they would be writing 'MAGA'.

I made my points and was laughed at regarding the polls. They were massively wrong and right now you are arguing water is not wet.

Oh, he's massively wrong too.

But so were you when you said Biden would win in a landslide. It's difficult for any Democrat to win a landslide due to the way the electoral college is set-up. You also said Dem's would get control of everything and so could do stuff like expand the Supreme Court. This also looks very unlikely.

It's far too close to call right now and my gut instinct (or maybe blind optimism) is that much of those votes still to be counted are postal and for largely urban areas and so will more likely be democrat, but I really wouldn't like to say that a big enough proportion of them will be.

That's why Trump has claimed victory and says counting should stop (something else I said was likely as he'd be ahead on the night as they mainly count votes on the day first for some reason).

Can't believe Georgia just sent people home from counting with 10% left to count in a close call. It's just asking for trouble either way. If it goes Trump, the mad left will claim the remaining votes were tampered with or removed. If it goes Biden, the mad right will say a lot of fake ballots were brought in during the downtime to swing it. It's just mindblowing incompetent - have they not heard of shifts?

Banning isn’t a good idea. But, people should not generally do politics on social media. It’s toxic.

It also builds echo chambers and amplifies the divisions between party support/policy positions.

Hence, polarisation between Democrats and Republicans in the USA and between Remain and Leave in the UK.

I haven't predicted a landslide - I said it looked like Biden would win easily. As I said to him a Landslide is a double digit PV lead and Biden wasn't going to get that
