These posts are bringing up so many forgotten usernames and posts. The whole site was chaos. I was more of a lurker in those days but got me through hours of college seeing the shit being posted.

MainStandNoel said that anybody that wears jeans is a tramp was a favourite.

I guess part of the appeal was a lot of it being pre Sisu days, or at least pre Northampton, so we didn't have to have a working knowledge of the legal system and links to everything we bought up, you could just call someone's daughter an ugly slag and be done with it.

I thought JapAndy was here as @singers_pore but must be different.

That Hull fan was a fucking menace, we took 299 there one Tuesday night and every week for about two years he'd be on having a go about our attendance that week, response was always to fuck off back to his own board but nobody was on it. There was a certain bit of pride about it being one of the busiest on Rivals too when every club had one. That Leicester thread really bit us on the arse.

Transfer deadline days were top notch, I swear someone made something up and it got on SSN once.

lol :) it was Ric Flair I was on about actually

wwoooooooo

So you were Rob87? Of course you were, the similarities are obvious. No grey areas for you, with everything black or white. You reacted defensively to any criticism of the club the same way you have in the matchday links this season. That's an observation by the way, not a criticism!

Wasn't it you who got in an argument with some meat head from Canley who offered you for a meet in the Wheatsheaf to sort things out man to man. You rather foolishly agreed, thinking it was just bravado, but the guy turned up, and called you out on the matter for ages afterwards whenever you posted (which was frequently). It's also in my head that you had a melt down when you had the piss taken out of you about some scarf you wore to a match? Apologies if I've got this wrong.

I don't know if it was GMK or rivals but remember there was a poster called villa_r_sh1te or something similar. In the summer when Boothroyd took over he casually queried whether anyone knew anything about Clive Platt as he had his photo taken with the squad that day. He got dogs abuse as it was a signing a load of Colchester fans said Boothroyd would make as he was such a long ball merchant... Until Platt was announced later that day. Shortly afterwards he leaked the team for the opening game and said Nathan Cameron and Ben Turner were starting at centre back when Boothroyd had played Wood and McPake in every preseason game. Again he dogs abuse... Until the teams were announced. Would love to have known who it was but was clearly someone close to the club.

I do remember this as well

He used to have rants at John gaunt on a Saturday(?) morning. Thing is, Gaunt would play with him on the radio, but all we'd see was westterrace2's responses, hammered out by the monkey on his typewriter.

Pages of gibberish.

But strangely appealing!

That can't be the same bloke surely

Wasn’t Smiles’ missus a Hull fan too?

Am sure it was a relative of Smiles missus that was Dutch....

Murking and Splurtis were one of my faves on GMK.

BobBones Murked everyone!

I remember him ranting on and on about not giving the club any money and his morals. We get to Wembley and he was sharing pictures of hotels.

Although it was one of those things where if his bullshit gets pointed out, you are a massive nasty bully. Never got that.

I never got the love in for GMK. I found it purile to be honest.
I thought it was a Coventry City forum but it evolved to a group of like minded juveniles.
Eleventy billion, which still raises it head on here, went from mildly amusing with a telescope to cringe very quickly and Bob bones and the like....do me a favour.
Lamented? Not by me. This site is better in every way IMO.

There was a poster who's opinions on football, formations etc I used to respect more than most. (Yes there were football threads). His username was Hibbett, or something similar. Think he left and came back as Mustapha

I let Smiles know about this thread and he asked me to post this on his behalf;

‘When you’re Smiling!

I’ve just sat here and read the whole thread! I'm sitting pissing myself, I’m surprised how well it’s still regarded; however, it’s true that’s (mainly) from our old posters - others would be a tad more critical, but it was always a wide church, wider than some would give it credit for.

I do have a log in for SB Talk but haven't used it for years I posted probably around 5 times in all, (having now checked it isn’t active and doesn’t work). The transition from GMK to SBT is something I don’t really want to comment in depth on.

GMK was / is marmite and very much an in joke by those who ‘got it’. I’m still in touch and friends in real life with a large number of old GMK / LAST posters, the message board was only one aspect of what became the pre-eminent campaigning webfanzine in Coventry.

The original SB Trust, Save our City etc. all came out of GMK which also produced the long standing and highest circulation paper fanzine (The last edition of which I still have copies in my loft). We had representation on many official supporters groups and regularly appeared on BBC C&W (with and without Sony award winning radio hosts).

I still have a GMK username and email list somewhere!

The truth is of it all was in some ways funnier than the reality.

Just a few corrections. My daughter was seeing ROLF. (She's now married to a copper and expecting my 1st grandchild). My wife is an Ull fan. Curtis is a family friend of decades standing.

GMK was a labour of love which I did for twice as long as Nev did, (I flagged up the post McGinnity threatened to sue him over, as I was one of the moderating team at the time.)
In the end GMK consumed both him & me & very nearly caused a mental breakdown. You'll never know how many times we were threatened with legal action over the years.

I only used the solicitors against one person who accused and repeated (refused to withdraw) that I was a peado. We traced his IP to a business in the East Midlands, I understand it didn’t end well for them.

There was also a multi club trolling gang that included large numbers of Gmkers in its fold which went on to troll, (when trolling was less controversial than it is now) large numbers of non-football related websites and messageboards worldwide – including the KKK! We also had the first fan football team playing sides home and away. Joe Elliott used to give us pitches at the Alan Higgs.

Large numbers of users had multiple identities; I couldn’t tell you how many I may have had! The place was a zoo.

We did have issues once Rivals / Sky removed their support and hosting we put our lot in with a small consortium of Sheff Weds / Hull fans, (down to our links of helping with the tribute to the Owls fan who died on the way back from a night game at The Ricoh) and the fans football team. Those sites still exist, GMK obvioulsy, doesn’t down to orchestrated DOS campaigns.

GMK was ‘fun’ that became some more serious and when our new owners came in, I figured it was time to move on to something else. As a supporter I’m still active and go to games but as an activist I’ve hung my cap up & am as retired from that as I am now from working in the ‘real world’.

Murked!

PUSB!’
