Good

Edit: don’t know the full details but proper decisions and actions need to be taken in situations like this.

Called this when I saw the tweet this morning then the hasty apology tweet a couple of hours later.

Shared an article where it repeated the conspiracy theory that Israel trained the cops who killed George Floyd, proper bat shit stuff that shouldn’t have made it into a national newspaper in the first place.

It’s from an Amnesty piece as well....

I do think she’s unlucky. She’s been quite good on antisemitism and it was one line in an article that covered a lot and generally said “don’t leave Labour if you’re left wing”, but if you’re shadcab you gotta be ultra careful.

I am sure I have seen a documentary about Krav Maga where it shows Israeli police. I will re-watch but but I am sure they said other police forces learn it from them.

Granted, probably not those exact policemen but I wouldn't be surprised at all.

What makes it anti semetic? Why would it be offensive?

Other rumours that he wanted rid of her because she was more supportive of Teaching Unions over their resistance to school re-opening.. which is not the Labour message.

Again rumours though and if it were true made easy by this error of judgement.

Not a clue. I’m here to learn as well this time. Must be something though if he’s sacking her and it can only be a good move.

Good leadership, he's in danger of making Labour electable at this rate. No chance would Corbyn have made that call.

I mean, Krav Maga is from the Israeli Special Forces. Why is it offensive to suggest people go to seminars about it?

Scary double hard bastards.

Imagine him being angry at you.

This could have been merged into the George Floyd thread tbf to save us yet another separate politics thread.

Nick. Wait for an answer before you crack on with 50 posts.

No, I have watched those Israeli videos now so I am already windmilling. 6PM after a cider I will be full on shadow boxing at the screen.

Just somebody tell me what is offensive about it? Please?

In a nutshell:

It’s been claimed that the cops learned this from Israel, Israel deny this: Israel Police to 'Post': We do not have a 'George Floyd' procedure

The far left have a history of antisemitism so people are on a hair trigger for “dog whistles” and see this made up link between BLM and Israel as an attempt to blame Jews for everything wrong in the world.

Therefore antisemitism.

I think this is very weak but Labour need to be whiter than white (lol) when it comes to antisemitism. A comparable event would be Milliband sacking Thornberry for her tweet of a house with a St George flag on because of Labours issues around patriotism and working class support. Sometimes it’s better to nip it in the bud with a symbolic action that might be over the top than face more complaints you’re as antisemitic as Corbyn and co.

So it's offensive to jews at the suggestion of the police using moves from the Israeli special forces killing a black man? Almost as if the suggestion of it is saying that the jews especially trained the police so they could go and do it?

To be honest, I think the suggestion that it's offensive from that line in the article is more bat shit mental than the thought of police training in Krav Maga.

I do agree with this, and for this reason she should have been more careful with her sharing of the article.

The EHRC report is due imminently too - I think it’s a symbolic move as much as anything.

I think it’s more “why bring Jews into this?” And like I say Labour have a lot to prove to the Jewish community right now.

Antisemitism is a complex topic I’m still getting my head around TBH, some of it I get, other bits seem a massive stretch. Throw in political axes to grind and a new leader trying to look ultra electable and there you go.

You might want to do some more reading about labour and antisemitism to fill yourself in on the last few years

It's a shame that all it takes is retweeting an article containing one dubious sentence to lose a Cabinet position but she should know better.

It still doesn't explain why that line in the article is offensive to Jewish people?

I mean, the Israeli special forces have invented a martial arts discipline that police can learn. It's not really a conspiracy theory to say that police may have learnt (or tried to) learn it.

To then try to link it that the jews were training up the police to kill black people is more batshit mental.

Because there’s no reason to suggest the US police learned it from the Israelis and even if they did why bring it up?

But yeah mostly it’s very mild and if it wasn’t Labour post Corbyn this probably would’ve been ignored.

When you have a look at the cop doing it and then look at some Krav Maga videos there are some similarities to be fair.

Surely the desperation to make that line offensive is actually more strange than anything.

I’m sure you actively try to not understand what people are saying ha ha

I think I am just thick as fuck.

I genuinely can't see how the sentence that is deemed as offensive in the article she RTd is actually offensive?

Especially as it's fact that Israeli special forces have their own martial art (that is scary as well).

Does that not mean that if I was to go to a Krav Maga class, the jews are training me up to be a double hard bastard and I could knock everybody out and it would be their fault?
