Jones sounds like he’s ready to go. Being managed back really well this time. Would love it if he scores the goal that sealed promotion.

Would struggle to get on our bench at the moment. Giles would be ahead of him. Not sure Robins is the sentimental type.

Giles has clearly come in for Mason on the bench if you look at it before and after. Bigger point is he’s got Allen, O’Hare, Shipley or Westbrooke to displace.

I think you’re correct here. I think Jones has been trained to play behind the striker now not cutting in as before. I see him as O’Hare’s backup/replacement.

Maybe he can play wing back. Not sure how disciplined he is. I thought he was a bit more attacking.

Shipley would be a decent shout for left wing back fill in. I'm u see impression Giles is much more attacking. More of a left sided of attacking 3.

Would be good if we can actually see him.

Just basing it on the rumour Wolves had sent him here cos they see him as a WB not a winger and the fact he’s been a straight swap for Mason on the bench. Our formation suits central attacking mids more than out and out wide men so unless there’s a change I’d be surprised to se him in the Shipley/O’Hare or Westbrooke/Allen role.

Our width going forward all comes from our WBs.

Think you've answered your own earlier query about lack of youngsters coming through this season.

Less need/space for them in the 1st team squad due to the depth we've not had for years.

Im not complaining obviously, but it’s be a real shame if the proper squad development meant we stunted the growth of the very players we rely on to survive financially.

Maybe it’s just an off year as well, many of the kids seem to have failed to break through to the U23s or are out on loan lower down.

There just seems to be a lot of fillers in the 23s atm taking up places of younger players who have more of a chance of playing in the first team.

Likes of Wakefield, Young and Bosma (Robins wanted to get rid of him a year and a half ago). Someone like Bremang has never played a first team minute in the 2 years he’s been here even in the Checkatrade despite scoring quite a few

But why play the filler if they aren’t going anywhere and there’s kids behind them?

You always need the supporting cast STP
Almost all age groups only have 2 or 3 lads who the management think have a chance long term
Of the current side I'd say it's Eccles for sure plus possibly Bilson and Newton
Apart from the lads out on loan I doubt anyone else in the U23s is currently looking like they could break through soon

4-4 !!! Take it Wakefield doesn’t work at centre back either then

strange signing
I heard afterwards that he was supposed to be right back in a 4 with Bosma and Newton in the middle and Beezy left back
But throughout the game Mason was always advanced so we effectively had 3 at the back
Might explain why he's out of favour?

Fillers are needed.

Without the Bosmas, Youngs, Wakefields etc we wouldn't be able to put an u23 side out and then there's no way of keeping fringe players/those returning from injury involved.
