Can you imagine the outcry if these comments were aimed at the BAME community?
"Doreen Lawrence, whose 18-year-old son was murdered by a gang of racists in south-east London in 1993, said she has "no doubt" the response to the inferno that killed 72 people was motivated by racism.

"Had that been a block full of white people, they’d have done everything to get them out as fast as possible and make sure that they did what they needed to do," she said, in an interview with Channel 4 News last week."

She needs to apologise!

Some of the Grenfell firefighters.

Loads of firefighters went to Grenfell, a couple of hundred. They can't all go marching in there without say so from their commanders. Pretty low to suggest they were sitting around doing nothing. I can see three black fire fighters there too.

A completely blinkered paranoid c*nt comment.

She was let down by the police and the government over the murder of her son, I can see that. I do believe there are many racist police personnel, but she can't label every force, be it firefighters, medical, etc as racist. Shocking comment.

It’s racist whichever way you look at it - the only mitigation is it was an interview in a week which channel 4 plummeted depths even I thought they would not sink to and she was almost led into saying it

this was the “news” channel that headlined then with an IRA thug saying don’t vote for Johnson’s deal or he’s the reason we have to go and blow a few people up

I might be reading this wrong, but are you aiming that at her?

I posted that picture because there is 3 black firefighters, so it doesn't really back up her claim.

Even if you believe the emergency services respond based on race, which is ridiculous enough to start off with, how did they know who was in there? Is she suggesting they got hold of a list of residents and their skin colour before deciding how to respond?

I thought maybe it was taken out of context and she meant something more along the lines that if it was luxury apartments housing millionaires the response might have been different, although that would surely refer to the aftermath rather than the immediate response, but having looked at the full piece its clear she does genuinely believe the emergency services didn't respond to the best of their abilities based on racism.

Sorry, didn't explain that very well, did I. Wasn't having a go at you. Just stating the same as you with the black firefighters.

Torch, i thought you were suggesting that 92 had posted that pic because he (or someone else) thought they were lazing around instead of rescuing people of whatever colour from Grenfell, when he was showing the ethnic mix of brave firefighters who were clearly on down-time.
Glad to read that you weren't.

How long have firefighters been a race?
Theyr'e not. Clearly though she thinks that a motivating factor in this is race. The motivation of the firefighters was determined by the race of those whom they were rescuing according to her. Clearly they let people die. That's not true nor is there evidence to support it.

Clearly it’s not true. But however fireman isn’t a race so I’m not sure how her comments can be contrived as her being a racist.

Really poor comments from her and blatantly untrue.
I hope she apologises.

Also amazing that there are now plenty of people defending our 'wonderful emergency services who didnt say a word when they were denied a pay rise for years by the government.

Perhaps she assumes. that the fire service are institutionally racist.

That's a low blow to be honest regarding institutional racism. What her and her family suffered due to the institutional racism and corruption in the MET was appalling and if we'd been through it what's to say we wouldn't be acting the same as her?

Doesn't excuse what she said regarding the emergency services and I hope when she's had time to reflect she apologises.

Maybe. But again I can’t see how that makes her a racist.

Stop playing dumb.

She wasn't calling the fire engines racist was she? She was talking about the people who run the London Fire Brigade, who are all white people. She's accusing people, based solely on their skin colour, of being racist, which in itself is racist.

It's not hard to understand.

I think the fire service do a good job, I didnt back the strikes either. They knew the pay and conditions when they took the job.

I'm not on about the strikes just the lack of a pay rise which applies to the rest of the emergency services.
And changes to the pay and conditions they signed up fot, (particularly to pebsions) was one of the reasons they went on strike.

And I was referring to people on social media more than to anyone on here.

It wasnt, they wanted a 40% pay rise. They were offered 10% if I remember rightly.

For another day and discussion anyway

fair enough but I was referring to 2013 which was a bout pensions not 2002.
I may be wrong but they didnt strike in 2013 did they? They threatened it but I dont remember them taking action?!
And it was about retirement age rather than pensions. Telling them they had to work til 60 instead of 55, the entire country had just had their retirement age extended so it's not like they were on their own and being singled out.

it was about extending the retirement age but there were also changes to the pensions.
There were some walk out strikes, (for a matter of hours), rather than the strike of 2002 which I'm not sure what the length of was but I believe it required the army to cover.

I think a lot of the firefighters, certainly the ones who actually entered the building were required to chalk there number on their helmets so they could be identified if they didnt make it out.
I cant think of any other civilian job that would require you to do that.
As for mrs lawrence, i guess she is still very angry and her comments may well be understandable......

I don’t think it was racially motivated but it was a criminally negligent decision to leave people in their flats that night. Someone is responsible for it and should answer why they didn’t make a decision. Alongside the greedy bastards who put the cheaper flammable material outside.

Didn't they say that usually with flats the protocol is to tell them to stay in them but they weren't expecting the cladding to be so flammable?

I'm sure I heard something like that.
