I was working in Tewkesbury that day when the floods happened. I was working on a building site at the time and one of the plumbers said if you don’t pack up and leave now you’ll be here for the night as the one road in and out of the housing estate I was working on was flooding, so the whole site packed up much to the annoyance of site foreman who was a bit of a prick and was telling everyone if they left don’t bother coming back as we won’t be working on that site again (not that he ever had that authority in the first place). I was on my way home when my boss called me asking why I’d left site and annoyed the site foreman in the process, he excepted what I said given I was driving through a foot of water at the time (luckily in a transit van). Anyhow I went back to site the next day to find a very tired unshaven site foreman still wearing the same clothes as he had on the day before because he got flooded in and couldn’t leave all night. TBF he did apologise to everyone.
