....Inter Milan fans say "It was respect or gamesmanship from the Calgari fans, doing Monkey chants"!!!!???

Romelu Lukaku: Monkey chants a form of 'respect' and 'not racist' say Inter Milan fans group

Fuck me, beggars belief.

Oh and also, Italian fans are fairly unique in their thought process in this, apparently and it's other countries that have a real problem with racism!!??

Cunts.

I see you’ve missed out the small detail of it coming from their ultras and instead labelled all of their fans the same.

Most fans don’t join in with it and it’s very much a minority, it’s like labelling all England supporters as hooligans, it’s simply not true.

Why is there any shock it’s always happening maybe he should have used his brain and gone somewhere else maybe for less money where it wouldn’t happen

Shittest response ever to this, surely a boo rather than monkey chants suffices? Load of bollocks but they will ignore it as usual. Wonder if that section of the ground will close like Rangers had?

It’s done by ultras who are often affiliated to the far right.

Italian law means it’s not up to the league, i think, but their response has been shit as well.

Shit though, a few black players commented on why they would never play in Italy and Russia for this reason

Some research was done last year and Italy by some distance was shown to be the most racist in Western Europe

Got a link to that?

I don't disagree that there are a lot of racist people but the majority are not.

Even for Ultra's that is difficult to make sense of. If it's not done for racist reasons why nbot just boo or call them shit. Jeer them. But it's monkey chants. Do they do those to white players? No. They do it to black players. Because it's racist.

I understand the idea of 'respect' because you jeer and boo a good opposition player but don't tend to bother with opposition players that are a bit shit. But for it to specifically be monkey chants is clearly racist. If I were a black player I'd go nowhere near the likes of Italy and Russia.

I think they genuinely believe it's not racist because it's perfectly acceptable in their country to do this. A female friend has an Italian boyfriend and people openly give them looks of disgust and shake theri head and kids stare and point at them over there.

Exactly, I understand booing or calling them a wanker as they play for the other team. It's clear monkey chanting.

It’s not ‘perfectly acceptable’ to do it within Italian society and it is condemned by the majority of people. There are backlashes against this sort of thing, especially from the younger generations.

The country is behind the UK with it though across society but it didn’t have the same sort of migration, during this period the UK did experience problems as well.

Saying that though it’s now relatively common to see ‘mixed couples’ and years and years ago I was seeing a girl from India and we never experienced any sort of problems or hostility.

Saying that though, Italian do tend to stare a lot more in general. I get stared at pretty often just for looking different but here it doesn’t have the same level of rudeness as in the UK.

I went to Madrid a few years ago and went to an Athletico Match with a Spanish friend. They were playing Barcelona and everything was fine with a great atmosphere. The fans kept chanting something at Neymar in Spanish. I asked the Spanish friend what they were chanting and he said it was "Your father is a nigger"

It was all very casual. Quite the eye opener.

The Spanish word for black is negra feminine or negro masculine I doubt they said nigger

I’ve heard England fans singing ‘I’d rather be a paki than a Turk’ during a game on tv once. Does that mean all England fans are racist?

There are always a minority of scumbags in any crowd.

Like Italy Spanish racism is open and ugly. If anything it’s even worse than Italy and is tolerated even in pretty cosmopolitan cities

There are racists in every country, unfortunately. However, the majority are certainly not, in 20 years Italy will be very different socially.

Let’s not forget that you’re a Nigel ‘Breaking Point’ Farage voter though.

Hang on you said you didn’t know what they said and asked dummy

I then stated that a SPANISH speaking friend told me exactly what they said.

Fuck me!

I was at Bernabeau a few years ago for a Spain v England friendly (2004?) When I got back the next day I was surprised by the news highlighting sections of the Spanish crowd 'monkey calling' our black players. Surprised because being high up in the stadium as we were that night I never heard anything but surprised also by the mentality of what I would describe a civilised European nation compared to some of the more remote eastern European nations.
Ooer, have I just started something?

Not going to end well.

How does this get signed off without someone pointing out the incredibly obvious problem with it?

Seria A just don't seem to get it. Artist has painted monkeys for years apparently - really what % of people would know that?

People are supposed to look at the eyes as there's Western and Asian versions there too (sounds a bit stereotypical and racist as well).
99% of people are just going to see a picture of 3 monkeys. An ultra wears a picture of 3 monkeys on a shirt to a game and press would be screaming it was racist.
Still they defend it. Just incredible.

In Italy he is relatively well known.

It's been ridiculed over here as well by the more enlighted press.
