Every single person, at some point in life will be offended by something people have said or done. If every time somebody offended somebody else and it was banned wed have nothing. The world would be grey and dull. Youd have a choice of 3 haircuts, but would have to point at a picture and not speak incase you offended the barber. ITS FUCKING RIDICULOUS!!!!!!! Anybody who watches an advert and decides that they no longer wish to be a doctor because the woman on the advert was a stay at home mum, didn't deserve to be a doctor anyway.
I'm offended. Why on all the baby milk formula adverts does it show women breastfeeding????? Wheres all the breastfeeding men???? How rude! Such sexist pigs!! I'm offended!

It's a nonsense really, a real slippery slope. We shouldn't be giving a regulatory body that sort of responsibility. The ASA should police facts and nothing else.

I really struggle with the stance the ASA is taking. "Harmful gender stereotypes" : what "harm" is being caused by showing a man being crap at looking after a baby? And what actual "harm" is caused (and to whom) by depicting the real-world scenario that a man is off rock-climbing while the woman is at home DOING THE EQUALLY, IF NOT MORE IMPORTANT job of looking after the baby - and both of them can enjoy driving a VW Golf?
Incidentally THREE people complained to the ASA about that one!! THREE!!

What about the REAL harm caused by continuing to bombard the daytime TV-watching public with ads for betting companies??? Fookin' ban THEM and stop deciding who MIGHT be offended (but almost certainly ISN'T)!!

As a dad who played a fair part in bringing up my two daughters, I do get offended when men are portrayed as ham-fisted or incompetent when it comes to anything baby or domestic related.
As to whether it actually causes 'social harm', I don't know. But I think it goes go beyond simply annoying people. It's a pervasive stereotype, especially among women.
I'm sure it wouldn't be easy for a boy or man to get hired as a babysitter, whereas a woman would be assumed to be competent.

Offence is taken not given. It's your choice to be offended, and just because you're offended, it doesn't mean you're right.

Identity politics and general woke hysteria, it's a first world problem and it's taking us backwards. People have been prosecuted for causing offence, it's insane. I love Jonathan Pie's take on this:

It amounts to the same thing, you are allowing a whole class of people to be tarnished with the same brush.
And that could negatively affect that whole class of people in many ways.

If you were a male offering babysitting services, people would automatically (whether their bias is unconscious or not) think you are a paedo. Same reason the VAST majority of primary school teachers, cub scout leaders, etc. are now female.

I've seen the advert with the babies left on the sushi conveyor belt and it just seems a bit cheeky rather than offensive. Rather than ban it, simply complement it with a car advert where a woman has to do a 23-point turn to get out of a parking space

I'm not sure the complaints were necessarily just because the complainers were 'offended' and nothing more. That's a big assumption.
For instance, if you were paid less money than someone else for doing the exact same job, you might on the surface be 'offended'.
But you also might not be able to afford the same lifestyle as the other person. You might have to buy a cheaper car or not be able to send your kids to University. That goes way beyond simply being 'offended'.

Offended or not, the people that complained should grow a backbone, and the ASA should tell them to piss of with their ludicrous complaints. Either that, or all adverts should consist of just a picture of what is being advertised and "Please Buy This" superimposed on the screen. Maybe then those halfwits will be satisfied.

Obviously all complaints have to be evaluated and assessed for merit.
But you also have to consider that the vast majority of people don't complain, not because they are not offended, but because they are too lazy or don't know how, or they just spout off on internet forums like this one (in the 'what annoys me' thread).
