I've read one mackem fan's opinion who reckons their scouting system consists of Scotland and Coventry City. Made me smile.

To be fair he's scored goals everywhere he's gone (aside from Reading where he's barely had a chance). Can see him doing well at Sunderland as their team is really bulking up. I don't think he ever had intentions of coming here again but gutted to see we lost out on a chance.

Not arsed about him tbh thought he knew better & has flopped since should do ok up there with a target man they create plenty

Not a fan of players returning for a second stint as it usually results in failure. So not bothered. Good luck to him.

He had one good season in League 2 and didn't make the cut at Reading.

I'll not lose any sleep over it.

Really!?

173 appearances (83 as sub ) 89 goals
Goals per Game 0.34 roughly 1 in 3 where ever he’s been.

Bloody good ratio for a goal scorer whatever league you in!!

I don't quite get your point.

He's scored 0.34 goals per game in leagues lower than League One and in Scotland.

Quantity doesn't necessarily mean quality if you're taking into account the levels he scored the goals at.

If it makes you Sunderland haters feel better - at least when McNulty inevitably scores against us... were guarenteed at least 2 goals once the high Balls head towards Burge

My point being that he hasn’t just had ‘one good season in league two’.

He’s a proven goal scorer at every club he’s played for.

What standard is the SPL now? Watched it a few years ago and it was worse then league 2.

It's really not. I don't like Scottish football but to say it's worse than league 2 is ridiculous. It's probably low end Championship level (aside from the top 2 who are high end Championship).

Absolutely no chance is it the same level as the championship.

I would say it was on par with League 1

tbh McNulty couldn't hit a barn door for a long period before suddenly finding a golden streak (in league 2) where he hit the back of the net consistently for the rest of the season drawing attention from Reading. Reading never really gave him much opportunity or put their trust in him enough as they fought against relegation. When he had his chances he failed misserable on the whole and ended up back in Scotland where again he did not settle or set any records.
So from my perspective I'd say he was a one season wonder where the dynamic at the time just clicked rather fortunately under Robins guidance.
He may find some form again but I really don't fear him on the opposition side at all. Sunderland may provide more opportunity for him but I still don't think he is an prolific scorer by any stretch.

I am gutted too

Would have loved him back but this is double dissapointmwnt as sunderland r looking likely for autos again

They should have walked the league last season with the squad they had, just like Wolves did when they were still receiving parachute payments, so abject failure. They still have the best squad in the league, so will be interesting to see how they do.

If we don't get someone proven, like walker then I would feel a bit done by.
I guess it's the fact its Sunderland isn't it with all the history and that
