Agree with the sentiment but not sure how it would work in practice.

What would you do with people who don’t have dual nationality? Some sort of stateless Guantanamo-esque facility?

Has is been mentioned how she left isis?

They treat women like property and 2nd class citizens, she wouldn't have just been allowed to say it's not for me anymore and walk away.

If there's been no explanation of how she left isis, I believe there's an underlying reason here, more than to give birth and reap the benefits the UK offers.

I wonder if she is now an enemy of ISIS for fleeing?

The whole situation is almost unbelievable, but nothing surprises me anymore in this world. I just feel sorry for her innocent baby.

No, if they didn't get caught then they would of got to a isis safe place. Shame they didn't coz we wouldn't be having this discussion now.

15 dude. She was groomed on the Internet at 15. Should the girls being discussed in the grooming gang thread also be called “weak willed idiots” for falling for predatory older men?

Where this girl is now is a separate discussion, but blaming victims for their own grooming is a bit wrong if you ask me.

Absolitely agree. Criminally responsible for her actions over 12 years of age but also a child at 15 entitled to protection and all that comes with that. Hence under 16 a person cannot consent to sex etc

do you know the full story? she wasn’t groomed at all. Her dad is a isis radical seen burning American flags and was friends with lee rigby killers. she was bought up to support isis and left with her friends on false passports to support isis. she knew exactly what she was doing shes called her new kid after a jihdist war hero. bit like calling your kid hitler

To be fair, I think the majority of the discussion on this thread HAS been about "where this girl is now", and her lack of remorse which came out of the Times interview. Also saying yesterday that the Ariana Grande attack in Manchester was "justified" hasn't endeared her.
I think the degree of safeguarding (to coin a modern phrase) that she was provided with as a schoolgirl failed her utterly.

They were called prostitutes, easy meat and white trash amongst other things for years.
Don’t remember you speaking out for them like you seem to be doing for this girl.

Mate I worked with girls abused like that every day for years. Get to fuck.

Well you should know what a shit analogy it was then.
Comparing a religious fanatic jihadi bride with some girl that got impressed by a lad in a flash car outside the school gates, only to find herself a few weeks later being gang raped by 15 blokes above a kebab shop.

Shmmeee, I appreciate you have a lot more experience with helping people in this sort of thing from you mentioning your work.

However, surely you can not compare the two? One was a group of girls groomed, plied with alcohol, pimped out etc.

The other, 3 girls who willingly got on a flight together to cross over to Syria by themselves. They knew exactly what they were heading over there to do and who they were meeting. What's worse, the one who wants to come back is showing no remorse for her actions or even blaming their "groomers".

I am sure the girls from Rotherham etc would put all blame on their abusers, whereas this Begum is praising them?

I am concerned about the amount of support she is receiving on the basis of her being 15. She is now 19 and still has the same mindset.

I'm loving that a lot of the same people on twitter who want the voting age lowered to 16 because of Brexit are now saying "she was only 15" as part of her defence. I'm not saying either is right or wrong, but let's have a little bit of consistency rather than changing ideology to suit this week's argument.

I'm shocked (not unduly surprised) at some of the responses on here. Some people need to have a word with themselves.

Anyone making excuses for her need to have a serious think about this.
Again no one is making excuses for her. To suggest she deserved some protection as a 15 year old is a reason not excuse and to say she has been traumatised by her experience is a reason not an excuse. Why is everything so black and white?

Finally, the government is showing some back bone.

Not sure what will happen to her child though? Hopefully he can be taken off her and given a chance in life with a loving family.

I would have brought her back and made her face justice. Better to have her under control in a British prison than allowed to carry on with her life elsewhere.

I share some of Shmmee's views that at 15 she was potentially vulnerable, and that may have been forgivable had she shown any remorse, but she hasn't. She still poses a threat in my eyes, wherever she is. Just because she isn't in the UK it doesn't mean that she can't hurt us from afar. There is no way she should be allowed to integrate back into normal life, and the best way to do that would have been to lock her up. That said, hopefully the government have a plan to monitor her actions abroad (hopefully she won't just be set free).

I thought she was a British national and was born here? May be wrong. If it is the case though we may struggle not to take her back but we need to take appropriate action to bring her to justice if she does return.

Apparently, if you are born to a Bangladeshi citizen (as her mother is, i think), you automatically have the right to Bangladeshi citizenship, no matter where you are born. That may be why this has happened. Javid may be a Tory but he's not a complete idiot - he wouldn't have done this without legal advice!

Decent point OSB. I can only guess that is how the FO have looked at the situation from a legal standpoint.

However, I would've thought that the person in question would have to actually have that citizenship before any other could be revoked and leave said person stateless. I'd have thought states can put provisions into their legislature to deny/revoke citizenship to protect the national interest (i.e. said person having been part of a terrorist/banned group).

So unless she already has dual nationality this will end up in the courts. But if this is a legal way for us to prevent having to take her back I'm all for it. I feel for the baby in this, even if it is the offspring of terrorists.

I'm fairly sure you can only revoke citizenship if the person concerned has dual citizenship so she must be a citizen of somewhere else.

What crime would she have been charged with?
