Kids protesting about climate change (1 Viewer)

Those kids have had their parents and teachers pants down. Blagged time off school.

Thus saving the unnecessary pollution derived from all these people driving their kids to school.

I think I got a lift to school less than 5 times in my life.
Ha they would have all gone somewhere anyway to get there.

Let's face it, could have told them it was an afternoon off school this week to protest one thing and then next week the opposite and they would all be mad for it.

To be fair, I have to drive to the school but I'm not letting a 9 year old get 2 buses on their own

Laughed at this - If we had asked to join this in my school i would have been beaten for suggesting something stupid

We've all been there as kids to be fair. But the the real lesson to be learned is that living your ideals requires a lot of sacrifice, are you ready to make them

It’s that or we all die mate. It’s not about ideals, it’s about survival. Unless you’ve been stockpiling planets in your shed.

Jesus this stopped being about politics years ago.

My point being actions speak larger than words. That's a message I preach to my kids. Be passionate, believe in things but do something about it. Stop eating meat, save energy, walk more. Little bits add up. Stop buying cheap shit and throwing it away after 2 weeks. Boycott environmentally unfriendly products. If you just shout nothing changes

If they had spent a day picking up litter I would applaud them, but this is just posturing.

I might get slightly on board with them if they weren't just using it as an opportunity to suck off Corbyn.
And that is all it’s about. Hipster lefty parents trying to push their kids to be rebellious. Irony is that most probably drove there and back and take their little precious ones to and from school in their cars.

You old man lol
I made a serious point. The amount of litter in verges and minor fly tipping in and around Coventry is considerable. It all adds to general pollution.

On the note of fly tipping.

In Corley the other day it looked like a van had just emptied in the middle of the road and driven off. Disgusting.

When I was a kid, we went to some woods with the school to learn about the effects of dropping litter. There was a goodie dressed in green and a litter bug dressed in red.

Obviously the goodie and the baddie, we had to find the litter bug and tell him why it was wrong (we had learnt it through the day).

Don't think he expected about 10 primary school kids to pile into him for it, taken to the floor until the goodie could catch him.

I drive along the A45 and / or A46 most days and its terrible. Bad enough for locals but imagine you're a visitor to the city and that's your first impression.

Why can't they get some people on community service to litter pick?

Personally applaud them for standing up in what they believe in, I think this was more a Lucas thing than corbyn but climate change seems to be far down the list of priorities at the moment

I've no problem with them doing it, but it's not exactly new.

You had the hippie generation of the 60's (my parents age who're now the middle aged people in charge). Even my generation were quite on-board with the eco message, but again we seem to be doing little to change things. I suspect will be the same when it comes to them - when it gets to the stage they're in charge they'll push it onto the next generation as well because it easy to support it wholeheartedly when you've got no responsibility. When push comes to shove and you've got a family to support however much you might support saving the environment it's diluted by the realities of life and the need for jobs and money takes precedent, however short-sighted it is.

Of course it’s not new but It’s wider than that though, it’s about someone fighting to what they believe in. If that then makes them conscious about all thinks environmental then surely that’s a positive thing.

Of course it's a positive thing. I'm just saying how many previous generations that did marches etc ended up continuing that philosophy once they grew up and other more pressing day-to-day issues took over? Look these kids up in 25 years time and see how many are still going on about it and actually doing anything about it.

The current generation have been talking about climate change/global warming/plastics etc for quite some time, but when push comes to shove what do we do? Get in our cars, drive to the shops to get intensively farmed/processed food in plastic packaging. Not because we want to or think it's ideal, it's just if you don't it's pretty much impossible to live in the modern world and keep yourself and your family fed and ensure a roof over their head. So will it be for them eventually, and their kids will be banging onto them about why don't they do more to look after the planet, and the grandkids will do it to them.

Lucas was there making a speech but agree not sure Corbyn has the environment high on his agenda either

Don’t disagree but you can only do your own bit at the moment

Funny isn't it, kids would police each other's behaviour by calling you a litter bug if you dropped litter.

Despite the myriad of other issues, the amount of litter on the streets is my number 1 bug bear. It's fucking disgusting and people caught dropping litter should be forced into a year or community service picking it up.

Yeah, have always frowned upon it even as a kid and thought it was "naughty" to drop litter. We would just tell somebody to pick it up if they dropped something and put it in the bin as that was how it was from young.

Never really understood the need for it. When you are out and about there are bins near enough everywhere in sight, if you are in your car just keep it in there until you get where you are going and stick it in the bin there.

It's when you see people who seem to not even realise they do it, they unwrap things and just let the wrappers fall and carry on as if nothing happened.

climate change is more nature driven than people driven. this for me summed it up perfectly
Yes always noticed this when visiting my local uni - how much litter is left at concerts etc.
Can't agree with your comment about climate change not being driven by human activity though.
