Hi all, hope you're all well.

Sure a few of you have seen me about a fair bit on here, I was one of the very lucky and grateful single dads to get chosen for a season ticket for me and my sons.
Long story short, I was renting a room In a house of a lady I used to work with. Her son got into trouble and needed the room back, so on Saturday she turfed me out without warning, no documents signed so legally nothing wrong with it. So after pleading with the kids mum, I now reside on her sofa.
I have been working as a mastic man trainee for the last 4 months, self employed working under the manager as the contractor. However today, he phones me to tell me he's having to lay me off as no work for at least the next few weeks.
Two things, absolutely no fault of my own, and now I feel like I have nothing. Two kids to pay for, deposit on a new place, two car payments left on mine of £308, one due next week, and no job no house. Panicking a bit here guys so if anyone has any work available or knows of any, or any rooms/flats to rent, I'd be very grateful to hear from you, either in the thread or pm.

I've done bar work, restaurant work, I've worked as a carer for the elderly for 3 years, a carer for autistic children for a year, I've worked in a children's nursery, then mastic work and labouring

Can't help either - it sounds like one thing to do would be to contact as many companies and agencies as possible putting yourself forward for immediate labouring work, even if you're getting paid by the day on the sites. Not pleasant at this time of year and not great to work by the day under such terms but if you can get some money coming in you can then look for something more permanent/suitable in the coming weeks/months.

Make sure you claim your jobseeker's allowance as well in the meantime. It's not much but you are entitled to it

Also don't forget to contact the council who may be able to arrange some temporary housing for you, depending on your circumstances.

Good luck 'Astonesthrow' - there but for the grace of god could go anyone. I know a few on here might be in a safe, sound situation, but things can go wrong quickly for anyone - ill health, death in the family, partner cheats on them, business goes belly up etc. Nobody is immune. Once again, good luck mate.

Don't know how it could be done, or if it even could be, but would be happy to sling a tenner or so your way if others wanted to contribute, to try and 'crowd fund' to at least help with your car funds to take that worry off your back. Whatever happens, keep with it, brighter times lie ahead.

Was in a bad situation myself 25 years ago after I lost my council house to a cheating partner. Thought my whole world was caving in but, through sheer hard work and persistence, a quarter of a century later, I now own outright my 2 bedroom house and have retired even though I have a year to go before I can collect state pension. It's been a bumpy ride at times but if I can do it, you can do it old chap.

Ah that's very kind of you, literally anything and everything is appreciated at the minute. I've managed to get a job back as a carer, which is all well and good but wont get paid til end of Feb, so car payments still impossible as is everything for the next month. But at least I have one positive

Don't know where you live but I used to work at Hillfields Children's Centre (02476 228174) and I know they will either let you have a food voucher or direct you to someone else who will, which might take some pressure off outgoings in the short term?

I'm on indeed, plenty of jobs on there just nothing back yet. Think I've sorted work in care again though

Been there myself about 10 years ago following a split and redundancy at the same time. Speak to your lenders/finance company etc mate explain and you’d be surprised, they may well give a month or two grace rather than see you fall behind. Have a look on spareroom.co.uk for digs, loads of rooms on there and some don’t need a big deposit, if any. Glad to see you’ve found work already. Avoid payday loans obviously for an advance in your ages but perhaps get an overdraft through your bank or someone like drafty.co.uk whose interest rates are minute compared to Wonga and the like. Good luck with it all.

Lots of good advice above. In terms of debt, remember that in broad terms they can't have what you haven't got, so don't head off to Wonga. If you get in touch with the people that you can't pay this month, then I don't think there will be an issue, at worst you're going to miss a month which you can agree to make up later over an affordable period. Don't make an agreement that you're not certain that you can manage though, that will just make things worse in the long run.

Definitely don't borrow money to pay debts is my honest advice, and if you're not certain or feeling pressured talk to Citizen's Advice before you agree to anything. Or ping me a DM if you like, I've worked on the other side of this so might be able to give you a few pointers if that's of any use.

Keep your chin up mate, I know it probably doesn't feel like it now but the world will turn and you'll get through this. Asking for a bit of help is a smart, brave move in my book; you're already doing the right thing.
